The State Security Service (SSS) has arrested five suspected arms couriers, including two foreign nationals from neighbouring Niger Republic, over their alleged links to the Boko Haram faction responsible for the mass abduction of students from St. Mary’s Catholic School in Papiri, Niger State.
The suspects were apprehended in intelligence‑led operations that led to the recovery of 15 AK‑103 rifles, 15 magazines, and 1,434 rounds of ammunition. The same Boko Haram cell was also responsible for the recent Oyo school abductions.
Key Points:
The arrests disrupt weapons supply chains to terrorist cells operating in North‑central and North‑west Nigeria.
Recovery of 15 rifles and over 1,400 rounds suggests the group was preparing for major attacks.
Foreign nationals’ involvement points to cross‑border arms trafficking networks.
Families of the 315 abducted pupils may gain some closure as logistics facilitators are caught.
The same cell’s link to Oyo abductions shows terrorists are spreading into the South‑west.
Investigations continue to uncover the broader network, with security agencies aiming to prevent future mass abductions.
