2025 Post-UTME: JAMB Extends Deadlines For Varsities To Submit Underage Candidates Scores

Published

on

JAMB’s Head of Public Affairs and Protocol, Fabian Benjamin, announced the extension in a statement on Thursday, noting that several institutions were yet to comply despite repeated reminders.

He explained that the decision was taken in collaboration with the affected universities and that a fresh reminder had already been sent via email to them.

Naija News reports that Benjamin revealed that 23 out of 71 universities defaulted in meeting the earlier September 15 deadline...TAP TO CONTINUE FULL READING.

He stressed that public universities must now upload their recommended candidates to the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) on or before September 30, while private universities have until October 31.

“The measure was necessary to meet the overall admission deadlines of October 30 for public universities and November 30 for private institutions,” he said.

A breakdown of the affected institutions shows that the University of Lagos leads with 39 underage candidates, followed by Nile University of Nigeria, Abuja (18), and Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka (15).

Others include the University of Abuja (12), University of Uyo (9), Federal University of Technology, Owerri (8), and David Umahi Federal University of Health Sciences, Uburu (6).

In total, 135 underage candidates are involved across the 23 defaulting schools.

Benjamin urged the institutions to forward the results without further delay, warning that failure to comply could affect the admission process of candidates who had chosen the schools.

JAMB had earlier disclosed in August that a special screening would be organised for over 500 underage candidates seeking admission for the 2025/2026 academic session.

Registrar of JAMB, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, said the exercise would be conducted by a technical committee between September 22 and 26 at designated centres in Lagos, Abuja, and Owerri.

He explained that while 41,027 underage candidates sat for the 2025 UTME, only slightly above 500 met the requirements to proceed to the next stage.

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has introduced new Bank Verification Number (BVN) rules effective from May 1, 2026, aimed at reducing fraud, especially SIM swap and identity theft cases. The regulations include stricter controls on phone number changes, age restrictions, device limits, and temporary account restrictions for suspicious activities. Here is a simple breakdown of what you need to know.

24-hour watchlist for suspicious BVNs – Banks can temporarily restrict accounts flagged for suspicious activity while investigations are conducted.
BVN registration is now for adults only – Only individuals aged 18 and above can independently register for a BVN. Minors require guardian-linked arrangements.
One device per banking app – You can only use your banking app on one device at a time. Switching devices triggers a 24-hour transaction limit of N20,000.
Authorised channels only – BVN services are now limited to CBN-approved banks and financial institutions. Avoid third-party apps or unofficial agents.
