Your EFCC Cases Won’t Disappear, You Will Face Prosecution – APC Tells New Members
The National Vice Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the North-East, Mustapha Salihu, has dismissed claims that politicians defecting to the ruling party are shielded from corruption investigations by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.....TAP TO CONTINUE READING
Naija News reports that Salihu made the assertion on Saturday night while addressing journalists at his private residence in Yola, Adamawa State.
According to the APC chieftain, the belief that party membership guarantees protection from prosecution is a deliberate attempt to discredit the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
He insisted that the president has zero tolerance for corruption and would not interfere with the work of anti-graft agencies.
“The notion that anyone can escape prosecution simply by joining APC is designed to blackmail this administration. This government has zero tolerance for corruption,” Salihu said.
Naija News reports that Salihu’s remarks come barely two months after a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, accused the APC of becoming a safe haven for politicians fleeing from the EFCC.
“It is my belief that more patriots will soon join us even as the PDP self-destructs and the APC becomes a haven for EFCC fugitives,” Babachir had said.
Babachir further described the ruling party as “delusional,” alleging that its strategy for the 2027 general elections was to manipulate outcomes.
“This is pure delusion because it will not happen. Nigerians will back us to frustrate any criminal manipulation of the 2027 election results,” he added.
Responding to the allegation, Salihu urged Nigerians with credible evidence against any APC member to submit formal petitions, assuring that the party would not hesitate to act.
“Anyone with information on any APC chieftain involved in corruption should write a petition. We will investigate, and if found guilty, such a person will be prosecuted,” he said.
He revealed that some APC leaders were already returning stolen funds as part of ongoing investigations.
“A lot of APC chieftains have done free bargain and they are returning money. Anyone that stole public funds will be prosecuted, even if you join APC, because corruption killed the economy of this country,” Salihu added.
Tracing the origin of the party, Salihu said the APC was initially formed as a coalition to wrest power from former President Goodluck Jonathan.
“We succeeded, and Jonathan was sent out of power. After that, people with a one-party ideology of policy-seeking coalition stayed on one side, while political pirates or buccaneers stayed on the other side,” he said.
According to him, while the power-seeking elements eventually left the party, the policy-driven majority remained to build the nation.
“The power-seeking coalition is no longer in APC because they could not get what they wanted. For the majority of us, we were policy-seeking, so we remain to build the country,” he added.
Salihu also took a swipe at the African Democratic Congress, predicting that the party would not survive beyond the 2027 general elections.
“ADC is a power-seeking coalition, so it will not last. About 80 per cent of those who joined or fused into ADC are presidential candidates,” he said.
According to him, internal rivalry and lack of compromise would soon tear the party apart.
“They already have a Messianic attitude. Nobody will step down or support another candidate. It is winners-take-all. Once their ambition does not materialise, they will move to another party,” he added.
On speculations that Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri might defect to the APC, Salihu said such political negotiations are not conducted in the public space.
“Political discussions are not done on television or in newspapers.
“Our job in APC is to woo everyone into the party. I will be happy if Fintiri joins APC today. It is criminal and undemocratic to stop anyone from joining a group of their choice,” Salihu stated.
He, however, added, “If he comes to APC, good. If he does not, I will wish him well. But I will not wish him good luck.”

Ex Nigerian President, Olusegun Obasanjo Reveals Why He, Jonathan Opposed Tambuwal’s Emergence As Speaker In 2011
Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, has explained the political considerations behind the opposition by himself and then-President Goodluck Jonathan to Aminu Waziri Tambuwal’s emergence as Speaker of the House of Representatives in 2011.....TAP TO CONTINUE READING
Obasanjo said their position at the time was guided by party interest and the desire to sustain gender inclusion in the leadership of the National Assembly.
He spoke on Saturday at a leadership colloquium and 60th birthday celebration organised in honour of Tambuwal, a former Speaker of the House of Representatives, ex-governor of Sokoto State and current senator.
Reflecting on the events that preceded the 2011 Speakership election, Obasanjo said the Peoples Democratic Party had backed Mulikat Akande-Adeola, a lawmaker from the South-West.
“Our thinking was that if, for the first time, a woman had become Speaker of the House, she should be encouraged to remain there,” Obasanjo said.
Tambuwal, then a second-term lawmaker and former Deputy Chief Whip from the North-West, however, defeated Akande-Adeola in a keenly contested election, polling 252 votes against her 90 out of 340 votes cast.
Despite opposition from the executive arm, lawmakers insisted on Tambuwal’s emergence, a development Obasanjo said underscored the legislature’s independence.
“But your members thought otherwise, and you made your decision. And we supported your decision. Initially, even you were not sure of where we would stand, but we stood with you,” he added.
The former President described Tambuwal as a humble leader whose rise demonstrated the autonomy of the legislature.
“One thing I saw in you was humility. Greatness that does not include humility is greatness that is hollow. Your greatness is not hollow,” Obasanjo said.
Tambuwal’s victory was further boosted by support from the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria, then led by Bola Tinubu, marking one of the rare moments in Nigeria’s Fourth Republic when the legislature openly defied executive preference.
Jonathan Confirms Disagreements
Jonathan, who addressed the gathering virtually, corroborated Obasanjo’s account and acknowledged disagreements with the House during Tambuwal’s tenure.
Jonathan said, “When he was Speaker, I was the President, and we had some disagreements.
“But one thing I must give to Tambuwal is that members of the House believed so much in him. He held the House together, and I appreciated that quality of leadership, even when we disagreed.”
Former Senate President, David Mark recounted how Tambuwal and his deputy approached him before the election.
“They came to me and said, ‘Sir, whether you like it or not, you are adopting us as your sons,’” Mark said.
He admitted to ignoring pressure from the PDP leadership on the eve of the election.
“For once, Mr President, I disobeyed you,” he said, drawing applause from the audience.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar described Tambuwal as a leader in the making, while Peter Obi praised him as a bridge builder committed to justice, consensus, and national unity.
Former Edo State governor, Adams Oshiomhole, commended Tambuwal’s ability to manage a politically fragmented House, while Akande-Adeola dismissed suggestions of lingering animosity.
“Only what God wills comes to pass. Tambuwal has been Speaker and a leader. There is no animosity among us,” she said.
Tambuwal’s Warning On Nigeria’s Future
In his remarks, Tambuwal said Nigeria was at a critical juncture and urgently needed rescue from years of poor governance.
According to him, national renewal must rise above personal ambition, ethnicity and party politics, warning against the imposition of unworthy successors.
He said such practices continued to weaken institutions and undermine democracy, stressing that meaningful recovery would only be possible if Nigerians acknowledged that “something is fundamentally wrong” and committed to genuine reform.

“We were abducted on our way from Miringa to Maiduguri around 2:30. Alhamdulillah, we are alive,” one of the victims said.
