Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Siphokazi Mawisa, who disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, January 11, 2026, said the suspect was arrested on Friday after he reported himself at Joza SAPS.

The arrest follows the k!lling of Linomtha Skeyi, whose body was found in an open field behind the Department of Social Development premises at Joza in Makhanda on Christmas Day, 25 December 2025.

Police said Skeyi was reported missing on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2025.

A search and rescue operation was subsequently launched, during which her body was discovered the following day.

At this stage, investigators have not established a motive.

“The motive behind the m8rder is not clear at the moment but forms part of the ongoing investigation,” said Mawisa.

The suspect is expected to appear before the Makhanda Magistrate’s Court on Monday, January 12, 2026.

Mawisa confirmed that investigations are continuing as police work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the teenager’s d3ath.

As per data from the US-based Human Rights Activist News Agency, around 495 protesters and 48 security personnel nationwide have died as mass protests continue in Iran. Another 10,600 people have been detained over the fortnight of unrest, the agency says. Large‑scale demonstrations against Iran’s ruling theocracy have continued for more than two weeks now, with huge crowds gathering in both Tehran and cities across the country.

Footage has surfaced from the Forensic Diagnostic and Laboratory Centre of Tehran Province, a morgue in Kahrizak, showing rows of body bags and around 180 shrouded bodies laid out, many of them exposed. In the video, people searching for missing relatives can be heard crying out in anguish.

The images have been deliberately blurred to shield the identities of those present, as they could be at risk of further persecution by the authorities.

Robina Aminian, 23, was shot in the head during the protests. A fashion student at a Tehran university, she had joined the protests after finishing her classes.

Two relatives told Sky News that officials attempted to stop the family from recovering her body. They eventually succeeded in taking her to Kermanshah in western Iran, where she was buried quietly and in secret.

Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian has blamed the US and Israel for the unrest.

“They have trained certain individuals inside the country and abroad, brought terrorists into the country from outside, set mosques on fire, and attacked markets and guilds in Rasht, setting the bazaar ablaze,” he said without providing evidence.

Iran’s attorney general said anyone protesting would be considered an “enemy of God” – an offence that carries the death penalty – while Khamenei has dismissed demonstrators as a “bunch of vandals” seeking to “please” Trump.

On Sunday the country announced three days of mourning for what it called “martyrs killed in Iranian national battle against the US and Israel”.

Cops and firefighters responded to a fire at a residential home in Lehigh Acres around 6 a.m. on Jan. 3. They then discovered an open 5-gallon propane tank near the front door and a homemade Molotov cocktail on the scene, according to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.

“Four occupants inside the home were able to escape through a window and were not injured,” police wrote.

Multiple witnesses told investigators that the suspect, a 14-year-old boy, had been parked down the street and had briefly made contact with the victims, asking them what happened before fleeing the scene, police said.

The suspect was located and arrested at his home, where he admitted to transporting the propane tank and using a gas-filled bottle to ignite the fire.

The teen also allegedly confessed to starting the fire in an attempt to k!ll an occupant inside the home, cops added. Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno told WINK that the target was his teenage friend.

“It was a very traumatic moment. Even now, two days later, I still can’t sleep, and neither can they because you relive everything that happened, and you’re afraid it’s going to happen again, which keeps you from sleeping,” Namiry Enrique Alvarez, the mother of the boy who was the target of the arson, told the outlet.

She recalled having to flee through the windows with her three family members as the inferno blocked the front door of her home.

Nobody was injured in the fire, Alvarez said. The motive for the alleged attempted murd£r is not immediately clear.

The 14-year-old has since been charged with four counts of attempted felony murd£r, arson, occupied burglary, making a destructive device, and possession or use of a weapon, according to authorities.

“This is a juvenile that’s committing a tremendous, horrifying act — trying to k!ll four people in a residence. It’s sad to me that things got this way, but I’m very thankful that the result is nobody’s hurt, and our suspect is off the streets and charged,” Sheriff Marceno told WINK.
