2027: Getting Tinubu out of power only way to rescue Nigeria  —  African Democratic Congress ADC

Published

on

The African Democratic Congress has declared that removing President Bola Tinubu from office is essential to rescuing Nigeria from what it described as an unprecedented governance crisis.....TAP TO CONTINUE READING

The party’s spokesperson, Bolaji Abdullahi, stated this on Friday during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, arguing that the country cannot be saved while the current administration remains in power.

“That is the agenda and not about the interests of Nigeria. There is no scenario where he remains in power, and we are able to save this country,” Abdullahi said.

The former minister claimed Nigeria has been hijacked by individuals with a bandit mentality, suggesting this attitude reflects the current government’s approach.

“When people say you can smash it, grab it, and run with it, that is the language of banditry,” he stated.

Abdullahi also raised concerns about alleged legislative manipulation, particularly regarding tax laws, describing recent developments as unprecedented in Nigeria’s democratic history.

He accused the government of forging legislation already passed by the National Assembly, questioning the gravity of such actions.

“A government that can forge a duly passed law; what do you call that?” he asked.

On reports that the Federal Government paid $9 million to foreign lobbyists in the United States to improve Nigeria’s image before American officials, including President Donald Trump, Abdullahi questioned the process and transparency.

“How was this contract awarded? How was the money paid? Who paid the money? What budget line was it taken from? How was the money transferred out of Nigeria?” he said.

He argued the expenditure showed misplaced priorities, noting that investing the same amount in internal security would yield better results than trying to convince foreign leaders that Nigeria is safe.

“They don’t care whether Nigerians are still dying. They don’t care that people are still being killed. They just want to look good before Americans,” Abdullahi said.

The ADC spokesperson also expressed alarm over a medical memorandum of understanding between Nigeria and the United States, reportedly signed around December 19, which he claimed grants the US significant control over fund allocation despite Nigeria’s larger financial contribution.

“No Nigerians have seen the details of this MOU,” he said, describing the terms as shocking while raising questions about sovereignty and accountability.

BREAKING NEWS: Finally Rivers Speaker orders Chief Judge to launch Fubara’s Impeachment Process

The Rivers State House of Assembly has insisted that the impeachment proceedings initiated against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Professor Ngozi Odu, will continue as planned.....TAP TO CONTINUE READING

POLITICS NIGERIA learned that the lawmakers reached the decision on Friday during a resumed plenary session, where they unanimously agreed to proceed with an investigation into allegations of gross misconduct levelled against the governor and his deputy.

The sitting was presided over by the Speaker, Martins Amaewhule.

Following the resolution, the Assembly formally called on the Chief Judge of Rivers State to constitute a panel to investigate the claims against both officials, in line with constitutional provisions guiding impeachment procedures.

Announcing the outcome of the vote, Amaewhule said the lawmakers had spoken with one voice and urged the judiciary to take the next step.

“This voting clearly shows the decision of the House,” the Speaker declared, while requesting the Chief Judge to set up a panel of investigation into the allegations.

Meanwhile, earlier on Friday, four lawmakers who had previously pulled out of the impeachment process resurfaced and declared their renewed support for the move.

At a press briefing, the legislators accused Governor Fubara of violating the 1999 Constitution and argued that the Assembly had no option but to exercise its legislative authority through impeachment.

They also alleged that the governor had resorted to blackmail and intimidation, insisting that he had lost the trust required to manage the political crisis currently rocking the state.

According to the lawmakers, the actions of both the governor and his deputy suggested they were not committed to any peace process, but were instead seeking to pressure the Assembly into dropping the impeachment plan while continuing what they described as acts of impunity.

They maintained that the impeachment process must proceed without interference, stressing that the House was determined to carry out its constitutional responsibilities to the end.

Former Lawmaker Calls For Reconciliation As Rivers Assembly Tensions Linger

Published

A former federal lawmaker, Ogbonna Nwuke, has recalled the last sitting of the Rivers State House of Assembly before it adjourned plenary until January 15, noting that developments since then suggest the House may reconsider its stance.....TAP TO CONTINUE READING

Naija News reports that Nwuke, who represented Etche/Omuma Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives and also served as Rivers State Commissioner for Information and Communications, said it appeared the larger House was beginning to bend after hearing interventions from various quarters, including within its own ranks.

Speaking with Punch on the impeachment proceedings initiated against Siminalayi Fubara, the former lawmaker noted that several developments followed the Assembly’s last sitting.

Nwuke said, “You and I know that after that sitting when they commenced the impeachment against the governor, many developments began to come up.

“You know that four of their colleagues have pulled out of the impeachment.”

He added that the dissenting lawmakers did not stop at withdrawing their support but also appealed to other members to do the same.

“They didn’t stop there, but also called on fellow House members in the camp to also withdraw. So naturally, I’m certain that quite a number of people and expectations are high,” he said.

Nwuke said lawmakers would likely weigh these developments carefully when they reconvene.

“They (lawmakers) probably will sit and look at all of that. If there are rumours of impeachment, it is entirely a problem of the House,” he added.

The former lawmaker emphasised the need for synergy between the executive and legislative arms of government to promote peace and development in Rivers State.

According to him, reconciliation remains the most viable path forward.

Nwuke said, “I think what great minds in Rivers State want at this time in our history is a clear understanding that there will be no impeachment.

“A clear understanding that there will be a working relationship between the House and the executive arm.”

Nwuke said such expectations reflect the general mood of the people of the state.

“These are the expectations, very likely, and I’m sure quite a number of Rivers people agree to this,” he said.

He expressed hope that when the House reconvenes, its direction would become clearer to the public.

“So we are hoping that when the House reconvenes, people will be able to study the mood of the House and be able to understand what direction the House is following at this time,” he added.

Abubakar, popularly known as Abba, formally announced his defection to the APC at the National Assembly, where he was received by the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, with APC leaders from the North-East.

Party leaders described the move as a significant boost to the APC’s consolidation efforts ahead of the next general election, given Abba’s political network and grassroots organisation.

Announcing his resignation from the PDP, Abba said the decision was informed by his conviction in the leadership style of Senator Barau and the policies of the Tinubu administration.
