Peter Obi: Atiku Will Likely Win ADC Ticket And Then Some People Will Walk Out – Baba-Ahmed
Former presidential adviser Hakeem Baba-Ahmed has predicted that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) could break up after the conduct of its primaries for the 2027 presidency.
Baba-Ahmed noted that the ADC currently has many politicians on its books eying the party’s ticket.

Naija News reports that Baba-Ahmed made the submissions on Tuesday while speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today.
“If ADC goes to convention, and it certainly will, because that’s what former Vice President Atiku wants, he will get the ticket.
“And then, a lot of people will walk out because a lot of people are in that party only for the same thing. They want the ticket,” he said.
Particularly referencing former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, Baba-Ahmed declared that Obi prefers to be handed any party’s presidential ticket instead of going into a contest at the primaries.
He suggested that some people might have promised Obi the ADC ticket before he publicly declared for the coalition, but they appear to have reneged on their word.
“One of the reasons Peter Obi is saying, ‘Look at me, I’m not here for number two, I’m not here for convention, I’m here to fly the flag,’ is that he has people who were initially whispering politely to him,” he said. “But now they are saying, ‘Join the queue. You’re not the only one with ambition here.’”
He added that Obi prefers to be a consensus candidate rather than go into a competitive primary with other aspirants.
“Peter Obi doesn’t do convention. He just goes there to be anointed,” Baba-Ahmed said.
According to him, the emergence of a candidate from the ADC primaries could also signal the beginning of an implosion within the party because politicians who are in the party for the same thing would leave with their supporters.
“So, the ADC will bleed after its convention because almost certainly former Vice President Atiku will win the ticket, and when he does, some people will walk out,” he said.

President Bola Tinubu will depart Abuja on Saturday for a three-nation visit to France, Kenya, and Rwanda. He will attend the Africa-France Summit in Nairobi (May 11-12), co-chaired by Presidents Macron and Ruto, focusing on energy transition, digital transformation, and climate action. He will then proceed to the Africa CEO Forum in Kigali (May 14-15), themed “Scale or Fail,” highlighting Nigeria’s investment reforms. The trip will last approximately two weeks.
