Appeal Court Dismisses Abure’s Appeal, Upholds Nenadi Usman as Labour Party Leader

The Court of Appeal in Abuja has dismissed the appeal filed by Julius Abure challenging the leadership of the Labour Party, affirming Senator Nenadi Usman as the legitimate leader.

The court imposed a N10 million cost against Abure for wasting judicial time on a matter already decided by the Supreme Court. Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court had earlier directed INEC to recognise Usman as the party’s National Chairman to the exclusion of all others.

Key Points:

The Supreme Court had nullified Abure’s convention on April 4, 2025.
The court criticised Abure for forum shopping in a Nasarawa State High Court.
The appeal was described as devoid of merit and an abuse of court process.
Usman described the ruling as a victory for democracy and the rule of law.
The Labour Party’s caretaker committee was deemed a doctrine of necessity.

The leadership of the Labour Party is now firmly settled in favour of Nenadi Usman.
