Mbah’s Defection: APC stakeholders threaten protest in Abuja if…
Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State have threatened to stage a protest in Abuja if attempts by some party leaders to block Governor Peter Mbah’s defection to the ruling party continue.....TAP TO CONTINUE READING
The warning was issued at the weekend after a meeting of stakeholders from the six local government areas of Enugu East Senatorial Zone.
They accused the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Chief Uche Nnaji, of allegedly working against Mbah’s anticipated move, urging him to concentrate on his national assignment instead.
Among those at the meeting were former APC state chairman, Dr. Ben Nwoye; retired Nigerian ambassador to Ukraine, Gen. Christian Ugwu; immediate past Vice Chancellor of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Prof. Hilary Edoga; former governorship candidate, Chief Gab Nnamani; Chief Anike Nwoga; Hon. Hyacinth Ngwu; and Mrs. Juliet Egbo.
Dr. Nwoye said Mbah’s defection would turn around APC’s electoral misfortunes in Enugu, insisting that the governor’s performance had already won him the people’s admiration.
“Our plan is to reverse APC’s abysmal performance in Enugu. The rumours are everywhere that Mbah should move to APC because he has performed. Those putting a wedge to stop him don’t want APC to win in Enugu, but we won’t allow that,” Nwoye declared.
He added that Mbah’s strides in roads, education, healthcare, and security had attracted commendation from President Bola Tinubu despite their political differences.
Also speaking, Chief Anike Nwoga warned that if the minister and his allies continued to “spread hate” and resist the governor’s entry, stakeholders would march to the Presidency to demand Nnaji’s removal.
“APC hasn’t won any major seat in Enugu before. If Peter comes over, the party will begin to win. Some of them want APC to lose in 2027 so they can sit tight in their Abuja appointments,” he alleged.
Prof. Edoga argued that the Enugu APC would be “marginalizing itself” if it rejected Mbah, pointing to states like Akwa Ibom and Delta where governors lead the party.
On his part, Gen. Ugwu pledged support for the defection, stressing that competence should be placed above personal ambition.
“We have a more competent man in Mbah. That’s why I’m joining those calling him to come to APC. We’ve already prepared grounds for him,” he said.
Mrs. Egbo added that if the governor joined the APC, Enugu would enjoy greater federal attention like Imo and Ebonyi.
The meeting ended with a unanimous call on the APC national leadership to back Mbah’s defection, warning that any attempt to frustrate the process could trigger mass protests by stakeholders from Enugu East.

BREAKING NEWS: “Peter Obi will support Tinubu in 2027” – Activist predicts
Activist Deji Adeyanju says Peter Obi, former presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), will support President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election.....TAP TO CONTINUE READING
Adeyanju, in a post on Wednesday, claimed Obi would not join any coalition formed to challenge the president.
He alleged that those still supporting Obi were benefiting from what he described as a “fundraising scam”.
He said: “My prediction about 2027 is that Peter Obi will work for Bola Tinubu again. He will never agree to work with the coalition against Tinubu. Only people benefitting from the obidient fraud, and fundraising scam are still with him.”
Adeyanju added that “even the most stupid student of politics and history can decipher what Obi is doing”.
He said he would not support the former Anambra governor under any circumstance.
“I will rather vote a dog than vote Obi and his political extremist supporters can go to hell for all I care,” he wrote.

Bayelsa deputy governor, senator consider move to ADC after Gov Diri’s defection to APC
Former Governor Seriake Dickson and Bayelsa deputy governor Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo are considering leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over rising uncertainty in the party.....TAP TO CONTINUE READING
The planned exit follows concerns about the stability of the opposition platform.
Dickson, who has been openly critical of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Senate, has not followed Governor Douye Diri in defecting to the ruling party. Ewhrudjakpo also refused to join the APC after Diri’s defection on November 3.
Both men are believed to be in talks with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which is being considered as a platform for Dickson’s reported bid to return to the Senate and for Ewhrudjakpo’s expected run for governor.
As Dickson ended his second term as governor, he backed Ewhrudjakpo for Senate and later influenced his emergence as Diri’s running mate.
Ewhrudjakpo left the Senate after becoming deputy governor, creating a vacancy which Dickson won in a by-election.
Dickson had earlier warned Diri against defecting to the APC, but the governor ignored the advice.
A source in the government house told The Nation that the rumoured defection of Dickson and Ewhrudjakpo has “some element of truth”.
The source said Dickson has political links to the ADC and has allegedly influenced some appointments in the party’s state structure.
He said Dickson may defect along with Ewhrudjakpo, who served as his works commissioner during his administration.
He, however, argued that the ADC “cannot win one local government area” in Bayelsa due to its low acceptance.
He said his preference would be for Dickson to join the governor in the APC, adding that “anybody going to the ADC is on his own”.
Another source said Dickson’s chances of securing a third term in the Senate under the PDP remain uncertain, making the ADC a possible alternative.
He said the former governor has the political structure and resources to win an election in his district even on a smaller platform.
