Eyewitnesses said the assailants, numbering about ten, stormed the village on motorcycles and began shooting indiscriminately, NupekoTv reports.
Fear and tension have engulfed Bishewa village, near Zambufu in the Lafiagi Emirate of Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State, after bandits invaded the community and kidnapped a woman during a late-night attack...TAP TO CONTINUE FULL READING.
Eyewitnesses said the assailants, numbering about ten, stormed the village on motorcycles and began shooting indiscriminately, NupekoTv reports.
The son of the abducted woman, who narrowly escaped, revealed that he was the main target but was away on community patrol when the attackers arrived.
We heard the sound of about ten motorcycles heading toward our village. Everyone ran to take positions, but when we realized we couldn’t repel them, we fled for our lives. They kept firing and went away with my mother, he said.
The incident occurred barely 24 hours after the community secured the release of another abducted victim following the payment of a ₦5million ransom.
Residents of Bishewa and neighbouring communities have decried the rising wave of insecurity in the Lafiagi Emirate, calling on the Kwara State Government and security agencies to act swiftly to protect rural settlements.
“May Allah grant the safe return of our innocent mother and prevent future occurrences,” a resident prayed.
SaharaReporters had reported on Wednesday the kidnapping of two farmers at Bokungi Zambufu community under the Lafiagi Emirate.
Eyewitnesses had said the assailants stormed the farmland and opened fire “sporadically,” forcing villagers to flee. SaharaReporters had also documented recent attacks in Oke-Ode (Ifelodun LGA), Essanti (Patigi LGA), and Marri Village, where dozens were killed, vigilantes executed, and families displaced.
SaharaReporters previously exposed how Governor AbdulRazaq’s aides attempted to downplay insecurity by circulating old photographs of Nigerian Air Force strikes in Borno State and passing them off as fresh operations in Kwara.
On September 22, the governor’s aide, Olayinka Fafoluyi (aka Solace), shared images of airstrikes on his Facebook page, claiming they were deterrence operations against bandits in Oke-Ode. A fact-check traced the pictures to Operation HADIN KAI in Borno on October 25, 2024.
Residents had dismissed the spin as insensitive, given the wave of killings that claimed at least 12 vigilantes and the Baale of Ogbayo during a dawn raid in Oke-Ode.
From Oke-Ode to Patigi, villagers continue to flee en masse amid repeated raids. In Essanti, two sons of a youth leader were abducted in daylight, with kidnappers boasting that the move would “reduce the need for night invasions.”
In Marri village, assailants struck under heavy rainfall, killing one, injuring another, and carting away motorcycles before soldiers intervened.

New CBN BVN Rules: 5 Things Nigerians Must Know From May 1

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has introduced new Bank Verification Number (BVN) rules effective from May 1, 2026, aimed at reducing fraud, especially SIM swap and identity theft cases. The regulations include stricter controls on phone number changes, age restrictions, device limits, and temporary account restrictions for suspicious activities. Here is a simple breakdown of what you need to know.
One phone number change in a lifetime – Customers can only change the phone number linked to their BVN once. Choose carefully.
24-hour watchlist for suspicious BVNs – Banks can temporarily restrict accounts flagged for suspicious activity while investigations are conducted.
BVN registration is now for adults only – Only individuals aged 18 and above can independently register for a BVN. Minors require guardian-linked arrangements.
One device per banking app – You can only use your banking app on one device at a time. Switching devices triggers a 24-hour transaction limit of N20,000.
Authorised channels only – BVN services are now limited to CBN-approved banks and financial institutions. Avoid third-party apps or unofficial agents.
The new rules may feel strict, but they are designed to protect your money and reduce fraud. Be more careful with your phone number, devices, and banking activities to avoid unnecessary restrictions...TAP TO CONTINUE FULL READING.
