UCL: ‘You’ve shown you’re serious player’ – Wayne Rooney hails Chelsea’s Cucurella after Barça defeat
Manchester United legend, Wayne Rooney has singled out Marc Cucurella after the Spaniard’s outstanding performances in Chelsea’s 3-0 victory over 10-man Barcelona in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
He said for his display and his ability to keep Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal quiet throughout the game, the former Brighton man has shown he is a serious player.

Estevao made it 2-0 for Chelsea after he danced past Pau Cubarsi on the edge of the box before arrowing the ball into the roof of the net from a tight angle.

Speaking on Amazon Prime, Rooney hailed the Chelsea and Spain left-back, saying, “Estevao has probably given Cucurella the best lessons in training that he could have in dealing with Lamine Yamal.
“Cucurella was absolutely incredible. I think it’s probably the best performance I’ve seen from a left-back for a long, long time.
“To do that tonight, what he did, he’s a serious player.”

FIFA President Gianni Infantino has insisted that Iran “will be participating” in the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico, dismissing calls for Italy to replace them. Iran is currently embroiled in a war with the USA and Israel, raising doubts about their participation. Infantino said, “The reason is simple, because we have to unite. Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has reaffirmed his commitment to Galatasaray amid growing transfer speculation linking him to Barcelona and Arsenal.
