The man fell inside of a dinosaur statue
A man tragically died in a horrifying accident that left his family searching for him for days after he became trapped inside a giant dinosaur statue while trying to retrieve his mobile phone.
The 39-year-old’s body was discovered inside a papier-mâché stegosaurus in Santa Coloma de Gramenet, a suburb of Barcelona, in May 2021, sparking endless questions about the circumstances of his death. Police were alerted to the situation by a father and son who noticed something inside the statue.
The regional police force, the Mossos d’Esquadra, did not treat his death as suspicious but rather as an unfortunate accident.”A father and son noticed that there was something inside and raised the alarm,” a spokeswoman for the Mossos d’Esquadra told The Guardian. “We found the body of a man inside the leg of this dinosaur statue. It’s an accidental death; there was no violence. This person got inside the statue’s leg and got trapped.”

He was never identified to the public
She further explained they believe the man had dropped his phone and entered the statue headfirst to retrieve it, only to find himself unable to escape from the dinosaur. Firefighters were swiftly called to the scene to dismantle the statue, carefully cut open the statue and extract the man from its leg.
At the time of the incident, it was believed that the man had been trapped inside the dinosaur for a couple of days based on their findings. Reports from local media dating back to 2021 suggest that his family had reported him missing just a few hours before his body was tragically found.
Following his death, the stegosaurus statue was removed from Santa Coloma de Gramenet. The statue was originally intended to serve as an advertisement for a nearby cinema. Despite the cinema having since shut down and been boarded up, the statue remained in place, situated outside the city’s Cubic building. On the days that followed, locals were able to see what remained of the dinosaur, with some paying their respects by laying down flowers.

This isn’t the first instance of a grown man getting stuck inside a sculpture, although others have had more fortunate outcomes. A 26 year old man attempting to climb the famous Talus Dome sculpture in Canada, composed of 1,000 metal balls, had to be rescued by firefighters.
He accidentally slipped through the mould into an opening and became trapped. It was only due to a passerby that emergency services were alerted to his location, and they had to employ heavy-duty rescue equipment to free him.

The woman, who also owns a local tavern, is accused of detaining patrons and other community members without any legal authority.
According to police reports, the makeshift detention facility began operating on 2 December 2025. The woman is said to have locked up individuals who caused disturbances at her tavern, particularly those who became violent while drunk. She allegedly kept them confined until they sobered up or settled their unpaid bills.
Authorities further revealed that she detained at least 36 people, some for drinking at her tavern without paying, and others for outstanding debts.
Reports also indicate that the woman used the facility to detain men who allegedly assaulted women while drunk at her establishment.
Police have confirmed that investigations are ongoing.
