Nnamdi Kanu imprisonment: ‘Not issue to use knife, gun to fight ourselves’ – Bianca Ojukwu

Published

on

Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Mrs Bianca Odumegwu Ojukwu has called on the people of the Southeast to use dialogue and peaceful means to tackle the recent imprisonment of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu.

The Minister gave the advice at the 14th edition of Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu Memorial Day Celebration held at Ojukwu Memorial Library, Owerri on Wednesday.

She said though the court of first instance had sentenced Kanu to imprisonment, all hope was not lost, saying with dialogue and peaceful means, Nnamdi Kanu could be released from the Sokoto Correctional Centre.

DAILY POST reports that Ojukwu annual memorial day was instituted by Chief Ralph Uwazuruike, the founder of Movement for the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASOB.

Mrs Ojukwu in her address called for a minute’s silence for the late BBC journalist, Mr Frederick Forsyth, whom she said resigned her job to cover all things that happened during the 1967 to 1970, Biafra and Nigeria civil war.

“Nnamdi Kanu is in prison, we should not get angry and it is not issue to use knives, gun or fighting ourselves in order to solve it.

“This coming Christmas, all of us should endeavour to meet with our National Assembly members and our governors, ask them the way forward to ensure that Kanu is freed from the prison.

“Also all of us should come together, plan ourselves on how to use peaceful means to settle this matter, we should plan how to meet with President Bola Tinubu and amicably resolve this matter,” she said.

Sheikh Gumi Alleges US Intelligence Behind Boko Haram and Banditry in Nigeria

Published

on

Kaduna-based Islamic cleric Ahmad Gumi has alleged that American intelligence agencies are behind the activities of bandits and Boko Haram terrorists in Nigeria. Gumi made the claim in a Facebook post on Saturday while reacting to comments by Mike Arnold, who had spoken about the alleged persecution of Christians in Nigeria.

Gumi accused Arnold of promoting a false narrative about Christian killings while ignoring the insecurity affecting parts of northern Nigeria. He wrote that bandits and Boko Haram are “allegedly sponsored by the same American intelligence.” Gumi added: “One of the things Islam abhors is lies and liars.”

Key Points:

Gumi’s allegation could strain Nigeria-US counterterrorism cooperation if taken seriously.
The cleric’s claims may fuel anti-American sentiment among Nigerians already frustrated with insecurity.
Families of victims of banditry and Boko Haram attacks may feel their suffering is being used for political narratives.
The US government has not responded to Gumi’s allegations at the time of this report.
The timing of this claim, amid ongoing counterterrorism talks between Nigerian and US officials, is highly sensitive.
