Tinubu Declares Nationwide Security Emergency, Orders Massive Army and Police Recruitment to Crush Terrorism

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared a nationwide security emergency in response to escalating insecurity across the country, authorising unprecedented recruitment drives for the Nigerian Army, Police, and other security agencies. In a statehouse statement issued on Wednesday, the President directed the Police to immediately recruit an additional 20,000 officers—bringing the ongoing recruitment total to 50,000. He also approved fresh intake into the Armed Forces to reinforce deployments in high-risk zones.
To fast-track training, Tinubu authorised the Nigeria Police Force to use National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) camps as temporary training depots. He further ordered that officers withdrawn from VIP security duties undergo crash retraining for urgent redeployment to vulnerable communities. The President also empowered the Department of State Services (DSS) to deploy all trained forest guards to dislodge terrorists and bandits hiding in forests nationwide.
The agency has been directed to recruit more personnel to strengthen the crackdown. “This is a national emergency, and we are responding by deploying more boots on the ground,” Tinubu said. “There will be no hiding place for agents of evil.” The President commended the recent successful rescue of 24 schoolgirls in Kebbi and 38 abducted worshippers in Kwara State, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to securing the release of remaining hostages, including students abducted in Niger State.
He also charged the military to remain resolute and uncompromising. “There must be no collusion, no negligence. The Nigerian people are counting on you,” he said, paying tribute to fallen soldiers, including Brigadier-General Musa Uba. Tinubu called on the National Assembly to commence legislative action for the establishment of state police, noting that the Federal Government would support states that have already set up local security outfits.
He advised states to avoid operating boarding schools in remote areas without adequate security and urged religious centres in vulnerable regions to seek police protection during worship activities. Speaking on the persistent herder-farmer conflicts, the President highlighted the creation of the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development as a lasting solution.
He urged herder groups to embrace ranching, end open grazing, and surrender illegal weapons. Tinubu expressed condolences to families affected by recent attacks in Kebbi, Borno, Zamfara, Niger, Yobe and Kwara States. “Those who want to test our resolve should never mistake our restraint for weakness,” he warned.
The President urged Nigerians to remain calm, vigilant, and united. “Do not give in to fear. Report suspicious activities. We are in this fight together, and together we shall win,” he said.

Sheikh Gumi Alleges US Intelligence Behind Boko Haram and Banditry in Nigeria

Kaduna-based Islamic cleric Ahmad Gumi has alleged that American intelligence agencies are behind the activities of bandits and Boko Haram terrorists in Nigeria. Gumi made the claim in a Facebook post on Saturday while reacting to comments by Mike Arnold, who had spoken about the alleged persecution of Christians in Nigeria.
Gumi accused Arnold of promoting a false narrative about Christian killings while ignoring the insecurity affecting parts of northern Nigeria. He wrote that bandits and Boko Haram are “allegedly sponsored by the same American intelligence.” Gumi added: “One of the things Islam abhors is lies and liars.”
Key Points:
Gumi’s allegation could strain Nigeria-US counterterrorism cooperation if taken seriously.
The cleric’s claims may fuel anti-American sentiment among Nigerians already frustrated with insecurity.
Families of victims of banditry and Boko Haram attacks may feel their suffering is being used for political narratives.
The US government has not responded to Gumi’s allegations at the time of this report.
The timing of this claim, amid ongoing counterterrorism talks between Nigerian and US officials, is highly sensitive.
