JUST IN: INEC Finally Launched an Online Self-service Portal For Voter Registration, PVC Updates

The Independent National Electoral Commission has launched an online self-service portal enabling eligible Nigerians to register for a Permanent Voter’s Card, transfer voting locations, update details, and replace lost or damaged cards without visiting an INEC office.

The platform, part of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration exercise, allows first-time voters to complete the entire registration process on their mobile phones, including biometric capture. The commission introduced the portal after extending the CVR deadline from July 10 to July 24, 2026.

Users can register by visiting the portal, creating an account, verifying their NIN, completing biodata, selecting a polling unit, capturing biometrics using the INEC mobile app, and submitting their application. The portal also offers pre-registration options for those without NIN or who prefer in-person biometric capture.

Key Points:

Nigerians can now register or update voter details from home, reducing barriers to participation.
Digital registration may increase voter turnout by simplifying the process.
The platform reduces congestion at INEC offices and improves efficiency.
INEC’s digital push signals modernisation of Nigeria’s electoral processes.
Timing of the launch, with a July 24 deadline, creates urgency for eligible voters.

Voter registration numbers leading up to the July 24 deadline will indicate the portal’s effectiveness and public adoption.
