Super Eagles Slip Again In FIFA Rankings As Spain Reclaims World No. 1 Spot

Published

The latest update, released on Thursday through FIFA’s official handle, also confirmed that the Super Eagles remain sixth in Africa despite their struggles in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.....TAP TO CONTINUE READING

The drop continues a worrying trend for Nigeria. In August, the Super Eagles fell from 43rd to 44th following a string of disappointing results. Coach Eric Chelle’s men are yet to find their rhythm, and the rankings reflect the pressure mounting on the side as key qualification matches loom.

Across Africa, rivals are showing greater consistency. Morocco held firm as the continent’s top-ranked team, sitting 11th in the world after winning eight of their last nine matches. Senegal, Egypt, Algeria and Côte d’Ivoire complete the African top five.

Nigeria’s upcoming opponents, the Benin Republic, climbed to 93rd, while South Africa, which frustrated the Eagles with a 1-1 draw earlier this month, moved up to 55th. Zimbabwe suffered the biggest setback on the continent, slipping nine places to 125th, while Lesotho dropped to 153rd.

On the women’s side, the Super Falcons held their position as the 36th best team in the world. Spain, however, stole the headlines after overtaking the USA to claim the number one spot in the latest FIFA women’s rankings.

Globally, Spain also reclaimed the top of the men’s standings for the first time since 2014, dislodging Argentina. France rose to second, while Argentina slipped to third.

Portugal climbed into fifth, Croatia reached ninth, and Italy completed the top ten. Brazil dropped to sixth after an unconvincing run, while Germany tumbled to 12th following a shock loss to Slovakia, marking their first absence from the top ten since October 2024.

Slovakia enjoyed the biggest rise, surging 10 places to 42nd thanks to consecutive qualifying wins, including their upset against Germany. Other notable movers include The Gambia, Madagascar, Uganda, Libya, Suriname and the Faroe Islands, which each jumped at least five places.

Canada, one of the co-hosts of the 2026 World Cup, climbed to 26th, while Kosovo reached a historic milestone by moving to 91st.

Marcus Rashford Proves He Can Be Barcelona’s Game-Changer

Marcus Rashford showed once again why Barcelona may want to keep him beyond this season, delivering a decisive performance in their crucial Champions League win over Eintracht Frankfurt.....TAP TO CONTINUE READING

With Barça struggling to break down a deep-defending opponent, Rashford stepped up and provided the spark Hansi Flick’s side desperately needed.

The Blaugrana dominated possession—as they often do—but lacked penetration in the final third. Rashford, introduced at half-time, immediately shifted the tempo.

His directness, urgency and willingness to try a different approach gave Barcelona a dimension they were missing, reports Barca Blaugranes

His moment of brilliance came with a perfect cross to Jules Kounde, a pass few in the squad could execute.

The power, accuracy and timing showed exactly why Rashford’s English background and style bring something different to the team.
Barcelona needed a new solution, and Rashford delivered it

From the left flank, Barcelona have struggled to find consistent end product this season, with Alejandro Balde offering energy but not always precision.

Rashford changed that instantly, taking risks and attacking the game rather than waiting for the ideal passing sequence. His influence also sparked Lamine Yamal, who soon created another aerial chance for Kounde.

Barcelona’s comeback keeps their Champions League top-eight hopes alive, with Slavia Prague and Copenhagen still to come. But Flick knows his side must be more pragmatic, not just dominant in possession.

Even with Raphinha returning, Rashford has proven he can be a match-winner off the bench. If he wants a long-term stay at Camp Nou, performances like this will strengthen his case.

On a night when Barcelona looked lost, Rashford became the difference maker.

Maresca’s men took the lead through Joao Pedro, before the Serie A side fought back to take all three points.

Gianluca Scamacca’s header levelled the game, before Charles De Ketelaere smashed in the winner in the 83rd minute.

“After we conceded the first goal, we lost control a little bit of the game,” Maresca told TNT Sports.

“We are playing every two days, two days, two days. For a moment we looked like we struggled a bit.

“We were aggressive like them. We had different chances to make it 2-0 and when we conceded 1-1 the dynamic of the game changed a little bit.”

Chelsea now have 10 points from six games, two points behind eighth-placed Liverpool.

The Blues welcome Everton to Stamford Bridge next in the Premier League this weekend.
