Joe Igbokwe, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Special Adviser for Drainage and Water Resources to Lagos State Governor, has dismissed a widespread rumour claiming he was kidnapped along the Lagos Expressway by unidentified armed men.

Speaking exclusively with SaharaReporters on Thursday, Igbokwe described the reports as “fake news,” insisting that nothing of such happened.

“That’s fake news. That thing you heard is fake news. I’m at my house now drinking champagne. Nobody kidnapped me; it is fake news,” he told SaharaReporters, laughing off the claims.

The false report, which circulated across several social media platforms earlier in the day, alleged that Igbokwe’s vehicle was intercepted on the expressway and that he was abducted by armed men who blocked the road and whisked him away to an unknown location.

According to the viral posts, the attackers blocked the road suddenly, and before anyone understood what was happening, they had taken him and disappeared.

However, Igbokwe firmly denied the account, stressing that he has not been attacked, kidnapped, or involved in any confrontation.

The APC chieftain urged the public to disregard the rumour and cautioned social media users against spreading unverified stories capable of causing panic.

“Please ignore them. I’m at home, relaxing,” he said.
