This indicates that the wealth of several prominent corporate executives across the continent has increased substantially.

Here are the 5 African billionaires featured on the list:

1. Aliko Dangote (Nigeria)

Nigeria’s Aliko Dangote remains Africa’s richest man and one of the world’s most powerful businessmen.

The foundation of Dangote’s wealth is the Dangote Group, which includes energy, grain milling, sugar refining, and cement manufacturing.

His position as one of the richest people in the world is solidified by the Dangote Petroleum Refinery’s operational debut and expanding capacity. Aliko Dangote is worth $26.1 billion as of early 2026 and is ranked the 90th richest man in the world.

2. Johann Rupert (South Africa)

Johann Rupert, chairman of Richemont, is also a notable figure on the list. The South African mogul owns high-end luxury brands such as Cartier and Montblanc and is directly linked to the ongoing global demand for luxury goods.

Forbes ranked Johann Rupert 158th on the world’s richest list, with a net worth of $15.7 billion.

3. Nicky Oppenheimer (South Africa)

Nicky Oppenheimer is another South African billionaire on the list. He is the heir to the De Beers diamond family, though he is no longer directly involved in the diamond giant’s activities.

Oppenheimer’s diverse assets and long-standing influence in the mining industry have helped him maintain his position as one of the world’s richest people.

Oppenheimer is 295th on the list with a fortune of $10.6 billion.

4. Abdulsamad Rabiu (Nigeria)

Abdulsamad Rabiu is the founder and chairman of BUA Group. Rabiu’s wealth has grown significantly in recent years, driven by expansion in cement production, sugar refining, and food processing.

His position in the world’s 500 wealthiest reflects the rising competitiveness of indigenous African conglomerates. Abdulsamad ranks 331st and is worth $9.8 billion.

5. Nassef Sawiris (Egypt)

Completing the list is Nassef Sawiris of Egypt, a seasoned businessman. He has significant stakes in media, construction, and telecommunications.

Sawiris is well known for building and selling telecom empires in developing nations and has effectively reallocated his capital across a range of international ventures.

So far, he has secured his place as the 407th-wealthiest individual in the world, with a net worth of $8.5 billion.

Collectively, these five millionaires provide a compelling story about African business on a global scale. Their successes serve as both personal benchmarks and markers of the continent’s overall economic potential.

“Tinubu understands the US very well” – Sowore

Published

on

Omoyele Sowore, a human rights activist and publisher of Sahara Reporters has said that President Bola Tinubu understands the United States of America and its President, Donald Trump more than a lot of individuals ever imagined.....TAP TO CONTINUE READING

Speaking on Wednesday, on US’ involvement in fighting terrorism, insecurity and alleged persecution of Christians in Nigeria, Sowore said, only Nigerians have what is needed to save themselves and the country from an implosion.

His words, “So, Tinubu understands the US very well. He lived there, he was there as I’ve always said, as a criminal because he was selling drugs.

“Yes, and so he understands them very well. He knows what they want. That’s why he never spoke publicly when they were harassing him,” Sowore stated.

Also explaining why President Tinubu has remained quiet despite the agitations and declarations made by Donald Trump over the killings in Nigeria, Sowore alleged that the US have some dossiers on Nigeria’s number one citizen.

“And I’m sure they have a whole lot of dossiers on him that have kept him very grounded in the way that he knows what will please them. But nothing is new. This is what I am trying to explain: this is how the US operates.

“And for those of you who don’t understand, one day you will understand because I know some of you are new to these things and you are always very agitated when Sowore tells the truth about the US,” he said.

The activist further called on Nigerians to begin to look inwards to seek solutions that would liberate the country rather than expecting salvation from external bodies or the international community.

“The US cannot save you except you save yourself. The US has never saved anybody except the US. Even now, the United States is unable to save its citizens. They are killing people on their own streets for immigration offences. They are killing their citizens.

“It’s fascism, and is the reason why some of us stand up and say, even when he is unpopular… Yeah, as you all are aware, I think Donald Trump has more supporters in Nigeria than he has in the U.S. at this point. So, we know who his supporters are. Same people I have demonstrated fascism,” Sowore added.

JUST IN: African Democratic Congress (ADC) condemns President Tinubu’s $9million U.S. propaganda contract

Published

on

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has condemned the Bola Tinubu-led administration over reports that the Federal Government approved a $9 million contract for lobbying services in the United States of America.....TAP TO CONTINUE READING

The party described the expenditure as an attempt to launder the government’s image abroad while Nigerians grapple with worsening insecurity and economic hardship.

In a statement signed by Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, spokesman of the ADC, the party said the decision reflected misplaced priorities at a time many citizens cannot afford basic necessities.

Part of the statement read: “The African Democratic Congress condemns the Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration for deploying scarce public resources to launder its battered image abroad instead of addressing the deepening security and economic crises at home, as reported in recent disclosures on the federal government’s $9 million lobbying contract in the United States.

“No government in Africa has ever committed such an obscene sum to a short-term public relations exercise.

“While the ADC recognises the importance of representing Nigeria’s interests internationally, spending $9 million on image management at a time when millions of Nigerians cannot afford food, fuel, or basic healthcare is a clear case of misplaced priorities and moral blindness.”

The party said it was unrealistic to believe that paid lobbying could erase what it described as mass killings and widespread insecurity in the country.

“No amount of image laundering can wash away the blood of thousands of Nigerians killed under this administration’s watch. Lobbying to impress foreign leaders cannot substitute for a coherent strategy to end the bloodbath,” it added.

The ADC also criticised the reported framing of the lobbying effort as a campaign to communicate Christian protection efforts, warning that it could deepen sectarian tensions.

The party said Nigeria does not need propaganda but leadership, urging the Federal Government to prioritise the protection of lives and the restoration of trust in state institutions.

Further cracks emerged in the Rivers State House of Assembly, on Wednesday, as two more members urged their colleagues to withdraw the impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his Deputy, Ngozi Odu.....TAP TO CONTINUE READING

The two lawmakers, Barile Nwakoh, who represents Khana Constituency I, and Emilia Amadi of Obio/Akpor Constituency II, made the appeal two days after two other members of the Assembly publicly took the same position, urging restraint and dialogue over the impeachment process.

On Monday, two lawmakers, Sylvanus Eyinna Nwankwo and Peter Abbey, broke ranks, urging their colleagues to handle the dispute with caution and understanding.

The Assembly members advocated alternatives to impeachment, hinting at a possible path toward reconciliation in the escalating standoff between the legislative and executive arms of government.

The call was made during a press briefing in PortHarcourt Rivers State.

Speaking at the briefing, Nwankwo, the Minority Leader of the House and representative of Omuma State Constituency, said they had received appeals from leaders within and outside the state, urging leniency.

He encouraged fellow lawmakers to reconsider the impeachment process and explore peaceful solutions.

Abbey, who represents Degema State Constituency, acknowledged that while the governor may have violated constitutional provisions, it is important to recognise that mistakes can occur.

He stressed that the governor also has a responsibility to ensure that such breaches do not recur in the future.
