Earlier, the Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, had ordered an investigation and directed Mr. Okafor to report to the State Criminal Investigation Department at Panti. He later disclosed that the case had been transferred to the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2, Sylvester Alabi, for further action.
Providing an update, the command’s spokesperson, Abimbola Adebisi, said the probe was halted after the complainants invited by police failed to appear. She also said the command could not run a parallel inquiry while the Zone 2 Command was handling the case under the supervision of Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.
“There has not been further investigation from the command,” Ms. Adebisi noted. “I do not know if you are aware that he was invited. They came around, and that was when we discovered that he had similar petitions which they are still under investigation. So, the CP directed us to halt. When it is done with them in Zone 2, we will reopen ours.
“And all the complainants we have been calling on have refused to show up. For now, we are not pressing further. We are not pushing the complainants further. We just wait. And when Zone 2 is done, then we will wait for the outcome. And we will know the next line of action. He was released on self-recognition to proceed to Zone 2 for further investigation there.”
The controversy around Mr. Okafor began in December 2025 after actress Doris Ogala accused him of reneging on a promise of marriage and claimed the alleged betrayal caused her emotional distress. As allegations spread, the cleric issued a public apology to Ms. Ogala and other women he said he had wronged, while also accusing his ex-wife, Bessem, of adultery. She denied the accusation and in turn alleged she had suffered physical abuse during the marriage.
Amid the public dispute, Mr. Okafor announced he would step aside from ministerial duties for one month.

Events were set for: Tuesday, January 20, 2026 for Service of Songs at 4:00 PM, Candlelight Procession at 7:00 PM, and Artistes’ Night from 8:00 PM to midnight. All at LTV 8 Ground/Multi-Purpose Hall, Agidingbi, Ikeja, Lagos. On Wednesday, January 21, 2026 for private interment at 10:00 AM, restricted to family and close associates.
Bunmi Akinnaanu passed away on January 12, 2026, at a Lagos hospital after a prolonged and painful battle with a severe leg ailment. In late 2025, a viral video showed her tearfully seeking prayers for healing amid visible health struggles.

Residents explained that the assailants allegedly killed the woman and her children before throwing her infant into a well within the compound.
The exact circumstances surrounding the attack, including the time it occurred and the motive behind it, remain unclear as authorities continue to gather information.
Residents of Dorayi Chiranci described the incident as horrifying and unprecedented, expressing fear and grief over the violent loss of lives.

There is palpable tension in the area, with many locals taking precautionary measures against further unforeseen incidents.

A statement by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President, Information & Strategy Indicates that on the sidelines of the summit, Nigeria signed a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) with the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The agreement aims to deepen economic cooperation, boost bilateral trade and investment, enhance technology transfer, and expand collaboration across key sectors, including energy, infrastructure, agriculture, mining, and renewable energy.
