The Nigerian military has said that troops of the Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) have dismantled a suspected suicide bombing network in Adamawa State, arresting eight suspects during coordinated cordon-and-search operations linked to the recent Gamboru Market Mosque suicide bombing.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, said the arrests followed sustained intelligence gathering and surveillance on locations believed to be associated with the perpetrators and facilitators of the attack.

Uba said that acting on the intelligence, the troops carried out a cordon-and-search operation in the Yan Lemo area of Mubi South Local Government Area in the early hours of Monday.

During the operation, eight suspects were apprehended, including two principal suspects identified as key facilitators within the suicide bombing network.

A search of the residence led to the recovery of cash, mobile phones, identification documents, Automated Teller Machine (ATM) cards, jewellery and other personal effects.

According to the military, the recovered items are undergoing forensic analysis to support ongoing investigations.

During identification procedures, a suspect already in custody reportedly identified the two principal suspects as individuals who supplied materials used in the preparation of the Improvised Explosive Device (IED) deployed in the attack.

Other occupants of the residence were also said to have links to the network.

Uba said that all suspects remain in military custody and are undergoing detailed interrogation to extract further intelligence, after which they will be handed over for continued investigation, the military said.

He stated that in a related operation, the troops on Sunday, January 4, intercepted a large consignment of suspected terrorists’ logistics in Mayo Nguli, Maiha Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

According to Uba, the troops seized 45 jerrycans of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), with an estimated total volume of about 1,125 litres, believed to have been smuggled to support terrorist activities.

He said the suppliers fled the scene on sighting the troops, abandoning the petroleum products, which are now in military custody pending further action, adding that no casualties were recorded during the operation.

He said the operations underscored the military’s determination to dismantle terrorist networks, disrupt logistics and supply chains, prevent future attacks and bring all perpetrators and collaborators to justice.

Uba also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue to cooperate with security agencies, noting that public support remains critical to sustaining security across the North East region.

According to the police, the operation was carried out on Monday, January 5, 2026, following credible intelligence about the movement of suspected bandits in the area.

A statement issued on Wednesday morning by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, said the Kaduna State Police Command received information at about 8:00 p.m. that suspected criminals were planning to attack and kidnap motorists conveying children through Kasuwan Magani.

Upon receiving the intelligence, the Divisional Police Officer of Kasuwan Magani Division was immediately mobilised alongside a team of officers to the area.

Hundeyin said the police team arrived at the scene and engaged the suspects, successfully repelling the attempted attack.

“As a result of the operation, seventy-six children, comprising both males and females aged between seven and twenty years, were rescued unharmed,” the statement read.

During the operation, three suspects were arrested and identified as Jonathan John, 25; Oliver Magaji, 27; and Bitrus Sawaba, 23.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects were allegedly conveying the children to various parts of the country for child labour and other domestic work.

The police said the rescued children are currently being kept safely at the Command Headquarters, pending the arrival and proper identification of their parents or guardians.

The suspects are presently in police custody.

Hundeyin added that investigations had commenced to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident and to track down other possible collaborators.

“The suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations,” he said.

The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property and urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to support proactive policing.

A 20-year-old Nigerian has been arrested at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, over alleged involvement in large-scale fraud targeting victims in the United States, with losses estimated at over one billion naira.....TAP TO CONTINUE READING

The suspect was apprehended by operatives of the Anti-Fraud Unit of the Airport Police Command while attempting to travel out of Lagos.

The arrest was confirmed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the command’s spokesperson, ASP Mohammed Adeola.

Adeola said the arrest followed months of intelligence-led surveillance based on credible information linking the suspect to several transnational fraud operations.

According to the police, the suspect, who previously lived in Calabar, relocated to Lagos on February 23, 2024, from where he allegedly coordinated multiple fraudulent schemes aimed at victims in the U.S.

Investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly deceived a 47-year-old American woman into transferring one million dollars in 2024 under the pretext of purchasing property in Florida for an orphanage.

The funds were reportedly obtained through a cryptocurrency scheme known as “BullRun 2.0,” formerly referred to as “4 Way Mirror Money.”

The police also alleged that the suspect defrauded another victim, a 70-year-old woman in the U.S., of 18,000 dollars, equivalent to about N26 million.

Adeola said the suspect carried out the fraud by inducing victims to purchase gift cards, high-end mobile phones and computer equipment, which were subsequently shipped to Nigeria at his instruction.

He added that the suspect allegedly impersonated a 60-year-old orthopedic surgeon affiliated with the United Nations in Nigeria, claiming the devices were required to maintain secure communication channels with the victims.

Items recovered from the suspect include a 14-inch MacBook Pro, an iPhone 17 Pro Max, two Google Pixel 10 Pro XL phones and one Google Pixel 10 Pro, with an estimated total value of N8,141,367.

The Commissioner of Police in charge of the Airport Command, Mrs Olufunke Ogunbode, reaffirmed the command’s resolve to prevent criminal elements from using airports as escape routes, stressing the importance of intelligence-driven policing.

Adeola said the suspect and the case file have been handed over to the Nigeria Police Force Special Fraud Unit for further investigation, after which the suspect will be charged to court.
