A civic accountability organisation, MonITNG, has called on Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, and federal and state lawmakers representing Atakumosa East Local Government Area to urgently address the deteriorating condition of Community Grammar School, Odogbo.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the group said photographs taken during a recent inspection by the Tracka team revealed severe decay at the only secondary school in the community.

“Tracka team visited Community Grammar School, Odogbo, in Atakumosa East LGA, Osun State and the pictures they documented reveal a painful truth: despite Osun State allocating N35.1 billion to education in 2024 and increasing it to ₦55.1 billion in 2025, the only secondary school in this community is collapsing before our eyes,” the group said in a statement.

The statement described the condition of the school infrastructure as alarming, saying, “The walls are cracked and crumbling, the windows and doors are gone, the floors are bare earth, and the roof is held up by weak, improvised poles.

“Inside, students sit on broken desks in a half-destroyed classroom with holes in the walls and no learning materials. This is the degrading environment children have been forced to learn in for over 15 years.”

MonITNG expressed concern that despite substantial budgetary allocations, such facilities remain neglected.

“While ₦92 billion has been budgeted for education in just two years, schools like this remain abandoned,” it said.

The group criticised what it described as misplaced priorities by state officials.

It said, “Instead of prioritizing critical educational infrastructure, the State Governor continues to embark on frequent overseas trips funded by state resources attending weddings, birthday parties, and personal engagements while children sit in life threatening classrooms.”

Legislators were also faulted for failing to conduct constituency-based needs assessments.

“Lawmakers are not exempt. Instead of conducting proper needs assessments to determine what their constituents urgently need, National Assembly members focus on politically driven empowerment programs that benefit only party loyalists,” it said.

“Meanwhile, essential public infrastructure is ignored, and communities like Odogbo continue to suffer.”

MonITNG called on relevant authorities, including the governor, federal and state lawmakers, and education agencies, to intervene immediately.

“We are calling on Gov Ademola Adeleke, Senator Francis Adenigba, Hon Sanya Omirin, Nigerian Ministry of Education, Hon. Francis Adewumi, these images from Odogbo demand immediate action,” it said.

“Community Grammar School needs full reconstruction, safe classrooms, proper roofing, and adequate learning materials.”

The group concluded that Osun children deserve “dignity, safety, and hope, not abandonment”.

“Education must become a true priority, not a neglected statistic in the state budget,” it added.
