Trump celebrates strike

Trump praised the operation and reiterated his warning to militants.

The president took to Truth Social to praise the operation and reiterate his warning to ISIS militants.

“At my direction as Commander in Chief, the United States launched a powerful and deadly strike against ISIS terrorist scum in northwest Nigeria, who have been targeting and viciously killing, primarily, innocent Christians, at levels not seen for many years, and even centuries! I have previously warned these terrorists that if they did not stop the slaughtering of Christians, there would be h*** to pay, and tonight, there was,” he wrote.

Trump went on to highlight the role of the U.S. military, adding, “The Department of War executed numerous perfect strikes, as only the United States is capable of doing.”

“Under my leadership, our country will not allow radical Islamic terrorism to prosper. May God bless our military, and merry Christmas to all, including the dead terrorists, of which there will be many more if their slaughter of Christians continues,” he continued.

Trump’s ultimatum

The announcement follows Trump’s ultimatum to Nigeria to end the “killing of Christians” by Islamist militants, warning that U.S. forces could intervene “guns-a-blazing” if the violence continues.

In October, Trump even designated Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC) under the International Religious Freedom (IRF) Act.

The CPC label is assigned by the U.S. government to countries “engaged in severe violations of religious freedom.”

Nigeria welcomes Trump

Prior to the strike, Daniel Bwala, an advisor to Nigerian President Bola Tinubu, said that Nigeria “recognizes the passion and the zeal that President Donald Trump has demonstrated wanting to help Nigeria.”

“And we welcome that, as long as that respects our territorial integrity,” he told South Africa’s SABC News.

“And what we welcome, in this collaboration is, we know the Americans know that we need high-tech fighter jets, we need high-tech equipment, we need high-tech machinery for the purposes of curtailing and destroying this Boko Haram,” he added.

Nigeria denies Christian genocide

Despite accusations of Christian genocide, Nigerian officials say that Muslims are also victims of armed groups in the nation, where Christians and Muslims each make up roughly half of the population.

“The difference is that we object to the notion that the killing is targeted at a religion,” Bwala said. “Because the whole idea of a Christian genocide is a hoax.”

“But the idea of coming militarily into our soil would violate international order, would violate international convention,” he added, further noting “it would not be good because Nigeria is not a hostile country, Nigeria is a partner with the American government in many respects.”

The Federal High Court granted the trio bail on Wednesday, ordering that each release bond be set at ₦500 million with two sureties each who must own verified landed property in highbrow areas of the Federal Capital Territory.

The sureties are also required to swear affidavits of means and provide other documentation as part of bail compliance. The court further directed that their international passports be deposited with the registry and prohibited them from travelling abroad without permission.
