Colonel, Seven Soldiers Killed in Boko Haram IED Attack in Borno’s Monguno

A Commanding Officer of the 242 Battalion in Monguno, Colonel I.A. Mohammed, and at least seven soldiers have been killed after their vehicle ran into an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by suspected Boko Haram insurgents.

The colonel was responding to a distress call from troops under attack at a Forward Operating Base when the incident occurred. The military confirmed the attack, saying the officer’s actions “reflected the highest traditions of military leadership.”

The attack occurred just three days after a Brigade Commander was killed in Benisheikh.
The colonel was killed while proceeding to assess the situation after the immediate threat was neutralised.
Troops repelled the terrorists and maintained control of the location.
