Defence Minister Reveals Why No Bodies Were Found After US Airstrikes in Sokoto
The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (Rtd), has clarified the circumstances surrounding the absence of physical remains after the recent United States military intervention in Sokoto State.....TAP TO CONTINUE READING
According to the Minister, the sophisticated nature of the ordnance deployed during the operation explains why no bodies were recovered from the targeted sites.
Speaking during a live appearance on Arise Television’s Prime Time on Thursday, General Musa revealed that the precision strikes utilized high-end military technology that leaves virtually no trace of the targets.
He specifically mentioned the use of Tomahawk missiles, noting that the sheer destructive power of these advanced weapons accounts for the lack of visible evidence on the ground.
“They wouldn’t know, because the way they were neutralised, you wouldn’t see anything. It’s a new kind of weapon that was used, the Tomahawks,” the Defence Minister stated during the interview.
Addressing further inquiries regarding reports that some of the missiles failed to detonate upon impact, General Musa dismissed concerns, attributing such occurrences to deliberate military maneuvers.
He explained that deception and psychological warfare are integral components of modern combat strategy.
According to him, “That is all part of the tactics. In conflict attack, you deceive your enemy. Those are all part of it.”
The Minister emphasized that the operation was not an isolated event but part of a broader, more aggressive security push.
He disclosed that while the U.S. forces were engaging specific targets, the Nigerian Army, Navy, and Air Force were simultaneously conducting large-scale sweeps in other volatile regions.
Moreover, the Minister noted that these synchronized efforts have already led to significant gains since the start of January.
He assured the public that the current administration is committed to sustaining this momentum, hinting at more “big things” to come in the fight against insurgency.
General Musa concluded by urging Nigerians to remain confident in the military’s evolving capabilities and the strengthening of international partnerships aimed at securing the country.

FCTA Workers Declare Indefinite Strike, Shut Offices Nationwide
Activities across offices of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) are expected to come to a halt from Monday, January 19, 2026, following the declaration of an indefinite strike by workers.....TAP TO CONTINUE READING
The industrial action was announced by the Joint Union Action Congress (JUAC), which directed workers across all cadres to withdraw their services until further notice.
The strike affects all FCTA secretariats, departments, agencies, area councils, and parastatals operating within the Federal Capital Territory. Workers were instructed not to report to their duty posts as the unions insist that their demands have been ignored for too long.
In a notice circulated to members, JUAC explained that the decision to commence the strike followed the expiration of a seven-day ultimatum earlier issued to FCTA management.
According to the unions, the ultimatum elapsed without any concrete response or engagement from the authorities.
The unions listed several unresolved issues that led to the strike. These include the non-payment of outstanding wage awards and unpaid promotion arrears owed to workers across various departments.
They also raised concerns over delayed promotion exercises and the continued retention of retired directors and permanent secretaries beyond their statutory tenure.
JUAC further accused the authorities of failing to remit pension deductions and National Housing Fund (NHF) contributions deducted from workers’ salaries. The unions described this as a serious violation of workers’ rights and a threat to their future welfare.
Other grievances highlighted include poor working conditions in many offices, alleged intimidation of staff, and what the unions described as persistent neglect of workers’ welfare and career progression.
The unions also expressed dissatisfaction over the outcome of the 2024 promotion examinations.
According to JUAC, about 77.5 per cent of candidates failed the exercise, a situation they described as unacceptable and demoralising for the workforce.
In the notice, JUAC directed all workers to fully comply with the strike directive and remain at home until their demands are addressed by the authorities. The document was electronically signed by the JUAC Secretary.
As of the time of filing this report, the management of the Federal Capital Territory Administration had not issued any official statement in response to the strike action.
