The former Liverpool boss is currently the Head of Global Soccer at the Red Bull Group, overseeing RB Leipzig and RB Salzburg among other clubs.

The German departed Anfield at the end of the 2023-24 season, being replaced in the hotseat by Arne Slot, who won the Premier League title in his debut campaign.

Klopp took a hiatus from management, instead opting to take on a diferent role when he returned to the game with Red Bull.

Real are on the hunt for a new manager after Xabi Alonso left his post following Madrid’s 3-2 defeat by Barcelona in the recent Spanish Super Cup final in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Alonso had joined Los Blancos from Bayer Leverkusen ahead of the Club World Cup, where he led the side to the semi-finals.

Real are second in La Liga, four points adrift of Barca at the top.

Following Alonso’s departure, Klopp, who Sky Germany report to be a top target for Real, was aked whether he had been approached by the Spanish giants.

“Yes, there were definitely a few people who felt they had to contact me directly about [the Real Madrid job],” Klopp told ServusTV On.

“First of all, I think it’s another sign that something isn’t quite right there at the moment.

“This has absolutely nothing to do with me, and it didn’t trigger anything for me either.

“I was surprised, that’s true, genuinely surprised. Then a few people messaged me, and I replied with various emojis.”

Klopp voiced his concerns about the expectations placed on Real Madrid managers, with Alonso taking over the reins in the Spanish capital from fans’ favourite and club legend Carlo Ancelotti, who had won three Champions Leagues in his two spells in charge.

“If Xabi Alonso, who over the last two years in Leverkusen has shown what an outstanding coaching talent he is – I think at his age and with the number of jobs he’s had, you can say that — is then forced to leave Madrid just six months later, it shows a few things,” Klopp continued.

“On the one hand, it shows that nowadays there’s no time anymore.

“On the other, the expectations at Real Madrid are obviously enormous.

“To make a decision like that in the heat of the moment, after losing a cup final to Barcelona yesterday, says a lot. I think we’d already been hearing rumours for a while.”

Alonso began his senior management career at Bayer Leverkusen, and led Die Werkself to a maiden Bundesliga title, with his side going unbeaten the whole season.

Their title defence was ruined by Bayern Munich in his final term last year before Alonso moved to the Santiago Bernabeu.

He has since been replaced in the Real dugout by former team-mate Alvaro Arbeloa, who has stepped up from his position as head coach of Madrid’s Castilla side.

Alonso issued a short statement following his departure, writing on Instagram: “This chapter of my career has come to an end.

“It hasn’t turned out as we would have liked.

“Coaching Real Madrid has been both an honour and a responsibility.

“I thank the club, the players, and above all, the fans and the Madridista community for their trust and support.

“I leave with respect, gratitude, and the pride of having done my best.”
