JUST IN: APC holds first NWC meeting of 2026 as e-registration tops agenda

Published

on

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday held its first meeting of 2026, with deliberations centring on the party’s ongoing nationwide electronic membership registration and proposed amendments to its constitution.....TAP TO CONTINUE READING

The meeting, the 182nd sitting of the APC’s highest administrative organ, was presidened over by the party’s national chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda.

APC national secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru said the committee reviewed the progress of the e-registration exercise currently being rolled out across states.

He said the process is aimed at “sanitising its membership database, eliminating duplication, and strengthening internal party structures ahead of future electoral cycles.”

The APC recently launched the e-registration initiative as part of broader reforms to modernise its operations, improve transparency, and give party members digital access to registration and verification.

Party officials say the exercise is expected to play a critical role in internal democracy, particularly in the conduct of congresses, primaries, and other decision-making processes, as the APC seeks to avoid internal crises that have previously plagued party activities.

In addition to the e-registration update, the NWC also deliberated on proposed amendments to the APC constitution, a process insiders describe as central to redefining party rules, leadership structures, and disciplinary procedures.

The constitution review is seen as part of efforts to align the party’s internal framework with evolving political realities, address grey areas exposed during recent primaries, and strengthen the authority of party organs.

Further details of the resolutions reached at the meeting are expected to be communicated to party members and the public in the coming days.

BREAKING NEWS: US Congress summons Clintons over Epstein probe

Published

on

Bill and Hillary Clinton were set to testify starting Tuesday in the US Congress’s investigation into notorious sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, with Republicans warning they could face contempt charges if they fail to appear.....TAP TO CONTINUE READING

The Democratic former president and ex-secretary of state have been ordered to give closed-door depositions before the House Oversight Committee, which is probing Epstein’s connections to powerful figures and how information about his crimes was handled.

The pressure comes as President Donald Trump faces mounting calls for transparency after the Justice Department angered his supporters – many of whom believe the financier was murdered in a cover-up – by releasing only a sliver of case files nearly a month past the legal deadline.

Bill Clinton is scheduled to appear Tuesday morning, with Hillary Clinton following on Wednesday – but neither has confirmed attendance, according to US media reports.

AFP sought comment from the committee but received no immediate response.

“It has been more than four months since Bill and Hillary Clinton were subpoenaed to sit for depositions related to our investigation into Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell’s horrific crimes,” the panel’s Republican chairman James Comer said in a statement last month.

“Throughout that time, the former president and former secretary of state have delayed, obstructed and largely ignored the committee staff’s efforts to schedule their testimony.”

If the pair refuse to comply, a contempt resolution would need approval from the full House before being referred to the Justice Department.

Criminal contempt of Congress is a misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail and fines of up to $100,000, though prosecutions hinge on the department’s willingness to pursue the case.
Powerful elites

The subpoenas followed a unanimous bipartisan vote last year directing the committee to compel testimony from current and former officials as part of its Epstein probe.

The Clintons were initially slated to testify in October, but those dates were pushed back during negotiations with their legal team.

Bill Clinton’s spokesman says his team offered terms similar to those accepted for other witnesses and accuses Comer of singling out the former president without explanation.

Hillary Clinton’s office questions why she was called at all, arguing the committee has yet to explain the relevance of her testimony.

Epstein, once a friend and associate of Trump and other high-profile figures, was convicted of sex crimes and later jailed pending trial for allegedly trafficking underage girls.

His death in custody – ruled a suicide – fueled suspicions long championed by Trump supporters, that Epstein ran an international pedophile ring and was silenced to protect powerful elites.

After Trump returned to power last year, his administration vowed to release Epstein case files but quickly recanted, saying there was no further information to offer.

Eventually forced by Congress to act, the Justice Department released a first batch of Epstein-related documents – just one percent of the total case file – in December.

Among them were photographs of Bill Clinton from the early 2000s, before Epstein faced criminal charges.

Clinton denies wrongdoing and says he was unaware of Epstein’s crimes. His office says he cut ties more than a decade before Epstein’s arrest and has urged the government to release all remaining files in full.

No evidence has emerged implicating either Bill or Hillary Clinton in criminal conduct related to Epstein.

Contempt of Congress has taken on new weight in recent years. Two Trump allies were jailed for defying subpoenas in the investigation of the January 6 attack on the US Capitol – a stark reminder that defiance can carry real consequences.

The announcement was contained in a release signed by Ishaq Oloyede, JAMB Registrar, and shared on the Board’s official X handle on Tuesday.

According to JAMB, applications are open to suitably qualified candidates seeking admission into tertiary institutions across the country for the 2026/27 academic session.

The Board reiterated that eligibility is tied to age, stating that only candidates who will be at least 16 years old by September 30, 2026, are generally eligible to apply. However, provisions have been made for underage candidates under strict conditions.

JAMB explained that candidates who will be below 16 years by the stipulated date would be required to undergo an intensive evaluation to determine their eligibility for a waiver.

“Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for admission into tertiary institutions in Nigeria for the 2026/27 academic session.

“Only candidates who will not be less than 16 years old by 30th September, 2026 are generally eligible to apply/be considered.”

Such candidates must score not less than 80 percent in each of the UTME or A-Level, Post-UTME, Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE), as well as in the exceptional candidate assessment. The Board added that the UTME results of underage candidates would only be released after the completion of the evaluation process.

On registration timelines, JAMB disclosed that registration for UTME candidates, including those from foreign countries, will run from Monday, January 26, 2026, to Saturday, February 28, 2026. E-PIN vending for UTME candidates will begin on Monday, January 19, 2026, and end on Thursday, February 26, 2026, while registration closes on February 28.

For Direct Entry candidates, the Board said the sale of DE application documents and E-PIN vending will commence on Monday, March 2, 2026, and end on Saturday, April 25, 2026. It noted that Direct Entry registration would be carried out only at JAMB’s State and Zonal Offices nationwide.

“The period of registration for UTME candidates, including those from foreign countries, is from Monday, 26th January, 2026 to Saturday, 28th February, 2026.

“E-PIN vending for UTME begins on Monday, 19 January, 2026, and ends on Thursday, 26 February, 2026, while registration closes on Saturday, 28th February, 2026.”

JAMB also announced three categories of e-PINs for the 2026 admission exercise. These include Direct Entry at N5,700; UTME only without Mock at N7,200; and UTME with Mock at N8,700.

A breakdown of the charges shows that the UTME and DE application fee is N3,500, reading text N1,000, CBT centre registration service charge N700, CBT centre UTME service charge N1,500, bank charges N500, while the optional Mock-UTME attracts an additional CBT centre charge of N1,500.

“UTME/DE JAMB Application Fee N3,500; Reading Text N1,000; CBT Centre Registration Service Charge – N700; CBT Centre UTME Service Charge – N1,500; Bank Charges – N500; CBT Mock-UTME Centre Charge – N1,500.”

The Board further announced that the 2026 UTME will be conducted from Thursday, April 16, to Saturday, April 25, 2026, while the optional Mock-UTME is scheduled for Saturday, March 28, 2026.

JAMB cautioned candidates against multiple registrations, stressing that candidates are not permitted to register more than once. It advised that in the event of errors during the registration process, candidates should seek corrections through the Board rather than obtaining a fresh application, warning that duplication of applications violates registration rules and could attract sanctions.

“Candidates are not permitted to register more than once , in the event of any errors during registration process, candidates are to seek correction from the board and not obtain a fresh application as duplication of applications violates all the applications,” the board noted.
