JUST IN: Kano Governor, Abba Yusuf Sets to Join APC, Even as Kwankwaso Resists Move
As the frenetic wave of the 2027 general elections continue to blow, Kano State governor , Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has reportedly concluded plans to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC).....TAP TO CONTINUE READING
According to sources who confided in Politics Digest, the governor is expected to announce his decision any moment, having completed consultations with some of his close political allies.
According to findings, Governor Yusuf has, over the past few months, mounted pressure on his political godfather, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, to join him in the move. However, the former governor reportedly rejected the proposal, insisting that he will remain in the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).
Despite repeated attempts to persuade Kwankwaso, Governor Yusuf was unable to secure his support for the defection.
“The governor has met with some members of the State House of Assembly and disclosed his plans to them. The Speaker is expected to issue a statement assuring the governor of his full support, regardless of whatever political decision he makes concerning the state,” a lawmaker who spoke on condition of anonymity revealed.
The source further disclosed that loyalists of Senator Kwankwaso are also expected to issue a counter-statement reaffirming their loyalty to their leader and the NNPP.
“You will see these developments unfold within the coming week, as the governor has already made up his mind despite Kwankwaso’s resistance,” the lawmaker added.
Recall that there had been widespread speculation that both Kwankwaso and Governor Yusuf were planning to defect to the APC—a claim Kwankwaso publicly denied.
Kwankwaso’s recent criticisms of the APC have further strengthened the belief among political observers that he has no intention of joining the ruling party.
Efforts to reach the spokespersons of both Kwankwaso and Governor Yusuf were unsuccessful, as calls and text messages sent to them were not responded to as of the time of filing this report.

‘Defection Of Rivers Assembly Members To APC Affected Me’ – Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has asserted that the defection of 17 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) affected him.....TAP TO CONTINUE READING
Naija News recalls that on December 5, 2025, the 17 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, including Speaker Martins Amaewhule, defected from the PDP to the APC.
Their defection heightened political tensions in the state, which had just emerged from a six-month state of emergency.
Shortly after their defection, Governor Sim Fubara also left PDP for APC amid the leadership crisis between him and Wike.
Speaking at the Assembly Quarters on Saturday, Wike said the lawmakers defected to the APC without consulting him.
Wike vowed to ensure that the Assembly members who have not defected would never suffer again.
He said, “Let me thank you Mr Speaker even though it affected me with 17 of you moving out to join APC without consulting me and leaving 10 other members here.
“This is what I have been advising my National Chairman, keep your house in order so that the enemies will not come and take our people.
“The enemies are hovering around and when you are not vigilant they take your people, that is why you must be at alert to make sure that enemies don’t take your people.
“Those of you still remaining, whenever you choose, I’m here, but what I will not do is to let you suffer in your life.”

BREAKING NEWS: Zamfara Police Command confirm explosions in Zamfara, many killed
The Police Command in Zamfara, on Saturday confirmed that some objects suspected to be Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) exploded along the Magami–Dansadau Road in Maru Local Government Area of the state.....TAP TO CONTINUE READING
According to a report by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Yazid Abubakar, confirmed the incident via telephone conservation.
Abubakar, who declined further comments, said that the information available to command was sketchy.
He said the command was investigating to ascertain the cause of the incident.
The officer, however, promised to provide details of the explosion in a compressive statement.
An eyewitness, Malam Yunusa Isah, who was part of an escorted convoy travelling along the road, in a separate interview, confirmed the incident to newsmen via telephone interview.
According to him, suspected bandits planted triple explosives along the road between Maikogo and Mai’ayaya communities.
He explained that the explosions occurred while the convoys of vehicles were accompanied by security personnel along the road to Dansadau Emirate.
The eyewitness said the convoy was passing through the area when the blast reportedly destroyed two motorcycles and resulted in the death of four people.
“A second explosion later affected some trailers on the road, leading to the death of about five additional persons.
“ The convoy was lengthy, and the point where the explosion occurred was towards the rear of the vehicles,” Isah added.
He further disclosed that security operatives attached to the convoy engaged the attackers in a gun duel and pursued them into the nearby bushes.
The eye witness further told NAN that a woman reportedly fell off a moving vehicle in panic following the incident and was accidentally run-over by another vehicle, leading to her death.
He confirmed that security agencies had been reinforced in the area to ensure the safety of road users.

Rivers Power Shift: Wike’s Direct Line to President Cut Off as Fubara Gains Unstoppable Edge
According to our report, the political tide in Rivers State has taken a dramatic turn. If you’re curious about the deeper meaning behind dreams like eating, crying, seeing snakes, floods, or old houses, the full breakdown is available on NewsVista.....TAP TO CONTINUE READING
Political analyst Austin Aigbe reveals that former Governor Nyesom Wike’s once-unshakable influence is now waning as Governor Siminalayi Fubara strengthens ties with the ruling APC.
In a recent interview, Aigbe explained that Fubara now enjoys direct access to President Bola Tinubu and top APC leadership—a level of legitimacy Wike can no longer command. The era when Wike could bypass structures to seek presidential support against Fubara is effectively over.
Aigbe emphasized that this shift reflects a familiar pattern in Nigerian politics: power flows to sitting governors with control of state resources and strategic party backing, especially with the 2027 elections looming. Rivers State, he notes, has entered a new chapter where political clout is defined by present authority, not past achievements. The implications for Wike and his loyalists could reshape the state’s political landscape entirely.
