The suit, marked KMD/685/25, was filed on December 24, 2025, while the defendants were identified as George Udom and Bello Isiaka.

Court documents said the defendants allegedly published a Facebook post on December 23, 2025, which they attributed to Gumi.

The post reportedly threatened Gen. Christopher Musa (rtd) over military operations against bandits.

“If the Minister of Defence Christopher Musa don’t stop his military offensive against bandits, his entire family in Zango Katab in Southern Kaduna will be eliminated,” the post read.

Through his lawyers, Gumi denied making the statement.

The legal team, led by Suleiman Danlami Lere, said the defendants used Gumi’s name and picture to portray him as a sponsor of terrorism and a threat to national security.

The application for criminal summons cited provisions of the Penal Code Law 2017 of Kaduna state.

Gumi said the publication endangered his life and damaged his reputation as a cleric known for preaching peace.

He said the posts portrayed him as a “troublemaker” and exposed him to possible retaliation by security agencies or members of the public.

In a statement, Gumi’s lawyers warned social media users against spreading false and defamatory content.

“The era of hiding behind a smartphone to destroy the reputation of others is over. This case serves as a notice to all who intend to post defamatory or false content: the law will find you, and the prison gates are open for those who choose character assassination over truth,” the lawyers said.
