Kwankwaso accuses Kano government of allegedly compelling officials to sign for APC

The Leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement and the 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Dr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has accused the Kano State Government of allegedly pressuring state officials to sign for APC decamping.....TAP TO CONTINUE READING

Kwankwaso, speaking on his verified social media handles, alleged, “I have received several news, some good ones, but some so terrible. I received reports that Kano State Government is compelling state officials and elected local government chairmen to sign for either Gandujiyya or Kwankwasiyya”.

He added, “every of our supporters would not take this lightly. It is so disheartening that government would go down so low to be doing this”.

However, in a quick reaction to the allegations, the Kano State Commissioner for Information, Ibrahim Waiya, said there was no truth in the claim.

He stated, “what exactly happened is that our party is asking everybody, not only government officials, who is willingly and ready to join APC to do so, but not compelling as reported”.

The commissioner insisted that nobody was compelled or forced to act against their political wishes, emphasising that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf believes in freedom of association and membership.

Kwankwaso, in the clip, however, asked his supporters and followers to freely join the APC if they so wished.

“You should sign any documents given to you for the decamping to the APC; I have no problems with that”, he said.

Defection Saga Looms: Kwankwaso directs Gov. Yusuf’s appointees, lawmakers to ‘play along’ as governor compiles list of loyalists

Published

A former governor of Kano State and leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has asked all government appointees and members of the State and National Assemblies to “play along” as Governor Abba Yusuf orders compilation of list of his loyalists.....TAP TO CONTINUE READING

The list of the loyalists is being compiled to negotiate stake as the governor prepares to defect to the All Progressives Congress, APC.

In a video address shared on social media, Mr Kwankwaso said a number of appointees, caucus members and lawmakers are under intense pressure to append their signatures on the list of those who endorsed the governor’s defection to APC.

“I am dismayed by the government’s decision to put pressure on local chairmen and councillors, secretaries and other appointees to choose between Kwankwasiyya (NNPP) and Gandujiyya (APC).

“This is indeed troubling. All our supporters, not only in Kano but nationwide, will not be happy with this.

“Drawing from history, we have seen what happened in our dear state, especially in 2015 when we witnessed the worst form of betrayal. Our supporters resigned to their fate because of the patriotism and waited till 2019.

“Even though we had no any political office such as chairmen or councillors, no lawmakers but a few ones, they (APC) had everything at their behest. And despite this, people voted for us. Although everyone knows we won the election, they robbed us of our victory.

“We therefore waited patiently till 2023, and people came out en masse to vote for this present government with the hope of getting good governance.

“Our system (Kwankwasiyya) is built on loyalty. Whoever chooses to be disloyal, the only option is to leave (defect).

“The choice in Kano is between lightness and darkness. And we are happy the people have understood this.

“The appointees are in a dire situation, they are disturbed since the issue of going to Tinubu and Ganduje’s party came up. A number of local government chairmen and some councillors have called me, lamenting about their dilemma. Some are in distress and hospitalised, while others are having sleepless nights.

“After due consultation, in view of the fact that our supporters have given so much towards bringing the government — and the government is owing them — we call on the chairmen, councillors and all others to append their signatures.

“We believe it not yet electioneering period of 2027, and our supporters wherever they are will show up in the time of need.

“If signing the loyalty list will take them out of the distressing situation they found themselves in and also douse the tension in the state, so be it,” Mr Kwankwaso said.

Amaechi begins consultations, meets ADC state chairmen ahead of 2027

Former minister of transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has commenced consultations within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the presidential primary in the party.....TAP TO CONTINUE READING

Amaechi , a former governor of Rivers state, met with the party’s state chairmen from across the country, to discuss his presidential ambition.

Amaechi has in recent months emerged as a central figure in the ADC’s internal realignment, after defecting from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The meeting brought together ADC state chairmen drawn from all geopolitical zones, reflecting what party officials say is a growing momentum around Amaechi’s leadership and reform agenda, particularly among grassroots and state-level stakeholders.

The delegation was led by Kingsley Temitope Ogah, chairman of the ADC in Kogi state and chairman of the ADC State Chairmen’s Forum, alongside Kennedy Odion, the forum’s secretary and chairman of the party in Edo state.

Sources within the party said the discussions focused on strengthening internal cohesion, harmonising state structures, and aligning the party’s national strategy with the aspirations of its grassroots members.

Amaechi’s engagement with the state chairmen is seen as significant, given his long-standing reputation as a party organiser and political mobiliser, as well as his role in national politics over the past two decades.

Party leaders present at the meeting described the consultations as frank and forward-looking, noting that the ADC is keen to avoid the internal crises that have weakened larger parties, while building a disciplined and ideologically driven organisation capable of competing at the national level.

Although Amaechi has yet to make a formal declaration, the scale and intensity of the consultations have fuelled speculation that the groundwork is being laid for a full presidential bid.

JUST IN: APC holds first NWC meeting of 2026 as e-registration tops agenda

Published

on

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday held its first meeting of 2026, with deliberations centring on the party’s ongoing nationwide electronic membership registration and proposed amendments to its constitution.....TAP TO CONTINUE READING

The meeting, the 182nd sitting of the APC’s highest administrative organ, was presidened over by the party’s national chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda.

APC national secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru said the committee reviewed the progress of the e-registration exercise currently being rolled out across states.

He said the process is aimed at “sanitising its membership database, eliminating duplication, and strengthening internal party structures ahead of future electoral cycles.”

The APC recently launched the e-registration initiative as part of broader reforms to modernise its operations, improve transparency, and give party members digital access to registration and verification.

Party officials say the exercise is expected to play a critical role in internal democracy, particularly in the conduct of congresses, primaries, and other decision-making processes, as the APC seeks to avoid internal crises that have previously plagued party activities.

In addition to the e-registration update, the NWC also deliberated on proposed amendments to the APC constitution, a process insiders describe as central to redefining party rules, leadership structures, and disciplinary procedures.

The constitution review is seen as part of efforts to align the party’s internal framework with evolving political realities, address grey areas exposed during recent primaries, and strengthen the authority of party organs.

Further details of the resolutions reached at the meeting are expected to be communicated to party members and the public in the coming days.
