Naija News understands that the 51-year-old, who guided Forest to a historic Europa League qualification last season, had hinted in August that his relationship with co-owner Evangelos Marinakis had deteriorated.
“It’s not the same, not so good as it was [last season],” Nuno admitted at the time, while openly criticising the club’s transfer strategy and describing his squad as “unbalanced” and “very, very far” from being ready for the new campaign.
The club announced his dismissal in a statement released at 12:15 a.m. on Tuesday, thanking him for his contributions during what it called “a very successful era” at the City Ground.
The statement read, “Nottingham Forest Football Club confirms that, following recent circumstances, Nuno Espirito Santo has today been relieved of his duties as head coach.
“The club thanks Nuno for his contribution during a very successful era at the City Ground, in particular his role in the 2024/25 season, which will forever be remembered fondly in the history of the club.
“As someone who played a pivotal role in our success last season, he will always hold a special place in our journey.”
According to Sky Sports News, no replacement has yet been lined up, though the club hierarchy is keen to act swiftly.
Crystal Palace manager, Oliver Glasner, Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola, USA head coach, Mauricio Pochettino, and Fulham boss, Marco Silva, are all reportedly admired by Forest’s board.
Nuno’s exit marks the latest managerial shake-up in the Premier League, with the new season still in its early weeks.
