Sim Fubara Impeachment Saga: Ex-Tinubu Aide Demands Immediate Suspension of Rivers APC Lawmakers

Published

on

A former aide to President Bola Tinubu, Denge Josef Onoh, has demanded the immediate suspension of All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmakers in the Rivers State House of Assembly over the ongoing impeachment moves against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Odu.....TAP TO CONTINUE READING

Onoh said the party must act quickly to stop what he described as an abuse of legislative power in Rivers State. He warned that the impeachment plot could further destabilise governance in the state if not checked.

The former presidential spokesman made his position known in a statement released on Sunday in Abuja. He accused the lawmakers of using impeachment as a political weapon rather than a constitutional process.

Onoh, who is also Chairman of the Forum of Former Members of the Enugu State House of Assembly, criticised the Rivers Assembly leadership under Speaker Martin Amaewhule. He described the renewed impeachment move as reckless and driven by personal interest, rather than the welfare of the state.

According to him, the action amounts to an attack on democratic governance and constitutional order. He argued that the legislature was overstepping its boundaries.

He also questioned the basis of the allegations being used to justify the impeachment. One of the major claims against the governor is the alleged failure to present the 2026 Appropriation Bill.

Onoh dismissed this argument, stating that a nationally approved budget is already in force and is expected to run until August 2026 under earlier emergency provisions.

He said ignoring this reality shows bad faith on the part of the lawmakers pushing for impeachment.

Onoh noted that this is not the first time Governor Fubara has faced such pressure. He recalled that the current move is the third impeachment attempt against the governor since 2023. He added that the latest escalation began in January 2026, raising concerns about persistent political targeting.

He further alleged that the lawmakers behind the impeachment had recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC on December 5, 2025. This, he said, happened only days before Governor Fubara himself joined the ruling party.

Onoh argued that the timing of these defections and the impeachment move raises serious questions about internal party motives and power struggles.

“The simultaneous targeting of the governor and his deputy exposes a clear agenda to seize power through the back door. The APC should suspend all its lawmakers involved in this act of legislative rascality,” Onoh said.

Likewise, the former Tinubu spokesperson urged the APC leadership at the national level to intervene immediately. He warned that failure to act could damage the party’s image and undermine public confidence in democratic institutions.

JUST IN: Your Regrets Have Only Just Begun – Opposition Party PDP Mocks Fubara, Mbah, Oborevwori, Others

Published

on

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has stated that governors who defected from the party to the All Progressives Congress (APC) would soon regret their actions.....TAP TO CONTINUE READING

Naija News reports that the opposition party stated this while reacting to the APC’s decision to rule out automatic tickets for defecting governors.

The PDP National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, said the governors who dumped the party for the APC acted out of selfish interest rather than concern for their people.

Among the PDP governors who have defected to the APC are Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State, Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State, Peter Mbah of Enugu State, Agbu Kefas of Taraba State, and most recently, Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State. The APC leadership in Kano State has also indicated that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s defection is imminent.

Beyond the governors, several members of the National Assembly and State Houses of Assembly, former governors, ex-ministers and other party leaders have also left the PDP for the ruling party.

Speaking to The PUNCH, Ememobong said the defectors’ “regret has only just begun.”

“We have said it before that their defection is not in the interest of Nigerians or even the people they govern in their respective states. The move was purely driven by selfish motives,” he said.

Ememobong said the PDP was not surprised by the APC’s refusal to grant automatic tickets, describing the ruling party as one that does not genuinely value its members.

“We also know that the APC is not a party that truly values its members, so this outcome was expected. We saw it coming, and this is only the beginning of their regret,” he stated.

“The APC will continue to treat them as outsiders, and that is simply the reality. Over time, they will realise that their influence within the party is limited and their expectations of preferential treatment will not be met.”

He added that the defectors’ constituents might eventually begin to question their decisions.

“Their constituents may begin to see the long-term consequences of abandoning the party that initially supported them,” he said.

Also reacting, the National Publicity Secretary of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Ladipo Johnson, said the development did not come as a surprise, alleging that the APC often lures politicians with promises it fails to fulfil.

He said his party had earlier warned some officials in Kano State against assuming that defection guarantees political security.

“Well, even before now, I had asked some of the governor’s aides in Kano State as well: what is your guarantee that you will secure a second-term ticket from the party you might be joining?” he said.

He noted that APC’s internal dynamics often leave new entrants politically vulnerable.

“As is usually the case in the APC, they try to lure you in, and once you are in, they do not provide the ground rules. By the time you realise, it becomes difficult to exit,” he added.

“We are not surprised because the APC will promise them many things, and they may not fulfil any of them. This situation often leaves governors frustrated, with their political expectations unmet and their ambitions constrained by party realities.”

BREAKING NEWS: African President Yoweri Museveni Brands Opposition ‘Terrorists’ After Seventh-Term Victory

Published

on

Ugandan President, Yoweri Museveni, fresh from securing a seventh term in office at the age of 81, on Sunday accused opposition politicians of being “terrorists” who allegedly attempted to use violence to overturn the outcome of last week’s presidential election.....TAP TO CONTINUE READING

Official results released by the electoral authorities showed Museveni winning Thursday’s poll with 72 per cent of the vote.

However, the election has been widely criticised by African election observers and rights groups, who cited heavy repression of the opposition and a nationwide internet blackout.

In his victory speech on Sunday, Museveni claimed that the opposition, particularly the National Unity Platform led by Bobi Wine, had planned attacks on polling units in areas where they were losing.

“Some of the opposition are wrong and also terrorists,” Museveni said, insisting that they were working with “foreigners and some homosexual groups.”

“All the traitors, this is free advice from me, stop everything, because we know what you are doing and you will not do it,” he added.

Museveni, who has ruled Uganda since 1986 after seizing power at the head of a rebel army, maintained that the security forces only acted to prevent violence.

Bobi Wine In Hiding, Police Deny Raid

Meanwhile, the whereabouts of Bobi Wine, whose real name is Robert Kyagulanyi and who officially polled 25 per cent, remained uncertain as of Sunday.

Wine said on Saturday that he escaped a police raid on his home and was in hiding. Police, however, denied carrying out any raid and claimed that the opposition leader was still at his residence, even as journalists were prevented from approaching the area.

Wine has not posted on since Saturday, when he described the election as a “blatant theft of the presidential election.”

Although limited internet access was restored late Saturday, the Ugandan government said the ban on social media platforms would remain until further notice. Authorities had shut down the internet two days before the election, arguing that it was necessary to curb “misinformation” and “incitement to violence.”

Uganda has remained largely calm since the results were announced, despite small-scale protests reported late Saturday in parts of the capital, Kampala, where AFP journalists said tear gas was fired.

By Sunday, security presence had eased, with shops reopening and residents returning to the streets.

According to AFP, analysts noted that the election was widely seen as a formality, given Museveni’s firm grip on the state and security apparatus, though many Ugandans continue to credit him with relative peace and economic stability.

However, Human Rights Watch accused the government of “brutal repression” of the opposition ahead of the vote.

African election observers, including a mission from the African Union, said reports of intimidation, arrests and abductions had instilled fear and eroded public trust in the electoral process.

The most serious violence on election day was reported in Butambala, central Uganda, where an opposition lawmaker told AFP that security forces killed at least 10 people at his home.

Museveni backed the police account that the deaths occurred during an attempted attack on a ballot-tallying centre and police station, claiming similar plots were planned “everywhere.”

Another opposition figure, Kizza Besigye, who contested the presidency four times against Museveni, remains on trial for treason after being abducted in Kenya in 2024 and returned to Uganda.

Uncertainty over Kano Gov’s planned APC defection as Kwankwaso camp mounts pressure

Published

on

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s planned defection from the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, has become one of Kano’s most talked about political puzzles following the uncertainty surrounding the move.....TAP TO CONTINUE READING

DAILY POST reports that the defection, which was hitherto slated for the first week of January 2026, was pushed to January 12, 2026.

The much anticipated event was again stalled as the governor continued his consultations with National Assembly members, state legislators and key figures in the ruling party amid warnings from his political godfather and 2023 presidential candidate of the NNPP, Rabiu Kwankwaso.

The delay, however, has been ascribed to the split in NNPP and the governor’s tough demand from his prospective new party.

Governor Yusuf’s tough demand

An insider source familiar with the unfolding political occurrences in Kano State told DAILY POST that the governor has insisted on an automatic ticket for the 2027 election as a condition to join the ruling party.

According to the source, the top leadership of the ruling party has been unable to grant the request, placing it on hold waiting for President Bola Tinubu’s return from his foreign trip.

“The governor does not want to blindly join the APC and then later have people like the former national chairman of APC, Abdullahi Ganduje coming up with their own anointed candidate.

“You know that immediately he joins the party, he will stop enjoying the support he gets from His Excellency Rabiu Kwankwaso so if he doesn’t have the support of people like Ganduje or Kwankwaso, 2027 is going to be very tough for him.

“But if Kwankwaso had agreed to also follow the governor to APC, the whole thing would have been easier for the governor but Kwankwaso himself is not ready to move to APC, at least not yet.

“Now that Mr President is back to Nigeria, things will become clearer in the coming days, hopefully, the governor’s request will be granted but mind you, he is not the only governor seeking re-election”, he said.

Split in NNPP

Prior to the governor’s move to dump the perceived fastest-growing political platforms in the country, there has been a cold war among leadership of the party.

According to reports, the internal wrangling birthed the decision of the governor to shift his alliance to the ruling party.

The crisis reportedly began with a contentious change of the party’s logo, as the Kwankwaso-led faction replaced the basket of fruits with a book and graduation cap.

But the governor’s camp insisted that the previous logo must be maintained.

The development, DAILY POST gathered, sparked legal battles that have since thrown the party into uncertainty, deepening internal fragmentation.

While the governor has the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Hon Jibril Ismail Falgore, some Local Government Chairmen in his camp, the deputy governor, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo and some members of the state cabinet remain loyal to Kwankwaso.

Remain in our party, no clear road in APC – NNPP former Chairman

In an exclusive interview with DAILY POST on Sunday, the immediate past Chairman of NNPP in Kano State, Hashimu Dungurawa urged the governor to shelve his planned defection.

Dungurawa pointed out that while Governor Yusuf’s re-election under NNPP is sure, the road is not clear for him if he defects to APC.

He said, “It is still my prayer that the governor doesn’t leave our party because leaving the party will cause a lot of vacuum that will be difficult to fill.

“Staying with NNPP will help him because where he is going is a camp of his enemies.

“We are here supporting him in the NNPP, nobody is fighting him and there is nobody that is not wishing him well.

“If he remains in our party, he will automatically return as governor for his second term. There is no clear road in where he is going so the best thing for him is to remain with us.

“Definitely, we will all work for his victory in 2027 if he remains in our party. I don’t see any reason why he should be jumping to another when he is comfortable where he is.

“In 2027, NNPP is going to defeat the so-called APC and PDP in Kano State”.

Governor Yusuf under pressure to remain in NNPP

There has been intense pressure from Kwankwaso’s supporters known as the Kwankwassiyya Movement, aiming to stop the governor’s alliance with APC.

This comes with the threat that the governor will be asked in 2027 if he ignores the warnings.

It was gathered that Hon Mustapha Kwankwaso, the first son of the NNPP leader and other Yusuf’s cabinet members loyal to Kwankwaso, will immediately quit their jobs when the governor officially joins APC.
