Former Kano State Governor and national leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has declared his readiness to work with other political forces ahead of future elections, saying he is open to contesting either as President or Vice President, depending on agreements reached with trusted allies.

Kwankwaso made the declaration while addressing party members and supporters in Hausa in Kano State, emphasizing that his priority is to align with trusted allies who share his political values, rather than pursue personal ambition.

“What we want first of all are those who will agree with me and whom I love, for me to lead, whether as number one or number two,” Kwankwaso said.

He explained that his movement is deliberately keeping multiple options open to avoid accusations of secret deals or collusion, noting that different political paths are being considered.

“In order not to accuse people wrongly or say there is collusion, we will have option one, option two, option A, option B, and so on,” he said.

The former governor added that his consultations have focused largely on grassroots mobilisation, particularly in Kano State, where he said political issues from past elections are being resolved from the bottom up.

“Whether we are moving around the grassroots, whether we are moving around Kano State, or whether we have to stop and prepare acceptance in one place where we will surely achieve success, we will do so, God willing,” he stated.

Kwankwaso also appeared to criticise political negotiations that fail to deliver tangible value, especially for young people, saying promises without substance would not be accepted.

“When people say they will give us youths or supporters, we ask: how many, and in what form? What exactly have they brought?” he queried, suggesting that his camp is now more deliberate and cautious in political engagements.

He revealed that high-ranking political figures, including national party leaders, have been holding talks with his movement, describing them as “people of status and dignity” who did not come casually.

According to him, the strength of his political base lies at the grassroots, and discussions are ongoing about forming alliances, either within the NNPP or with other political parties.

“We have found a base at the grassroots, and we are hopeful of getting a political party that we will join with others, whether it is the NNPP or whichever party it may be,” Kwankwaso said.

Reflecting on the 2023 general elections, the former governor acknowledged that controversies and disagreements arose, but insisted they are now being addressed at the community level, especially in Kano State.

“Many people made various statements in 2023, but all these issues we are resolving at the grassroots. In Kano State, God willing, there will be no problem at all,” he assured.

Kwankwaso stated that his political journey as one driven by resilience, dignity and determination, signalling that his next move would be guided by strength rather than desperation.

“This journey is one of firm determination. This struggle is based on strength, on firm determination, and on dignity,” he said.

Ahead of Nigeria’s 2023 presidential election, the NNPP led by Kwankwaso and the Labour Party (LP) led by Peter Obi explored forming an alliance. However, talks collapsed because both sides wanted their candidate to be the presidential flagbearer, leaving the question of who would serve as running mate unresolved. This disagreement ultimately thwarted the move.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has declared that the 2026 budget is designed to consolidate the gains of President Bola Tinubu’s reform agenda, which he said is already producing positive results.....TAP TO CONTINUE READING

In an op-ed published on Monday and titled “A Defining Moment for Nigeria: Why Staying the Course Matters”, Idris described the 2026 appropriation plan as a “budget of consolidation, renewed resilience and shared prosperity”.

His words: “Our ‘Budget of Consolidation, Renewed Resilience and Shared Prosperity’ is critical. It is a commitment to double down on what is working, to solidify gains, and to ensure that the shared prosperity we speak of becomes a lived reality for more Nigerians, faster.”

The minister said the last 31 months under the Tinubu administration have been marked by difficult but necessary economic reforms aimed at ending stagnation and laying the foundation for long-term stability.

According to him, early signs of recovery are emerging, including expansion in business activity, improved investor confidence, easing inflation and stronger external reserves.

“These are not just numbers. They are the foundation for lasting improvement in the daily lives of Nigerians,” he added.

The minister said beyond economic indicators, rebuilding trust through transparent communication between government and citizens remains a priority of his office.

He said his ministry is committed to keeping Nigerians informed about government actions, challenges and progress.

Idris highlighted interventions aimed at easing daily hardships, including the student loan scheme managed by NELFUND and the presidential CNG initiative to reduce transport costs.

On food security, the minister said the government is addressing the challenge through the recapitalisation of the bank of agriculture and expanded agricultural mechanisation.

Idris said major infrastructure projects, including the coastal highway, the Sokoto–Badagry expressway, the AKK gas pipeline and new rail developments, are being executed to cut costs and improve national connectivity.

Addressing security, he said the government is strengthening recruitment, equipment and international cooperation.

He cited the recent rescue of abducted students in Kebbi and Niger states as evidence of renewed focus and commitment.

The minister acknowledged the fatigue many Nigerians feel and assured them that the government is working to accelerate relief through ongoing reforms.

He urged citizens to see nation-building as a shared responsibility, calling on Nigerians to engage constructively, protect public assets and reject misinformation.

Idris praised Tinubu’s “calm and decisive leadership”, saying recent engagements with the United States have strengthened bilateral relations and Nigeria’s anti-insurgency efforts.

BREAKING NEWS: “Igbo Marital Tradition is Stopping Young Promising Women From Getting Married” — Lady Breaks Silence

A Nigerian lady has sparked conversation online after lamenting how some Igbo marriage traditions are, according to her, making it harder for young women to settle down.....TAP TO CONTINUE READING

In an emotional rant, the lady complained about the long list of financial demands placed on intending husbands by extended family members she barely knows. She questioned why people who have never supported her in any way are suddenly making heavy demands simply because she wants to get married.

According to her, these relatives—often referred to as umunna, umuada and other family groups—are insisting that all customary payments must be fully settled by her partner before the marriage can go ahead.

She said the pressure is overwhelming, especially as many of those making the demands have never contributed to her life, not even in the smallest ways.

The lady added that while traditions are important, the way some families weaponise them is discouraging marriages and placing unnecessary strain on couples.
