Senate President Godswill Akpabio has alleged that political opponents of President Bola Tinubu are sponsoring insecurity and recruiting young people to cause unrest across the country.
Speaking at a road commissioning in the FCT, he claimed critics have run out of issues to campaign on due to the administration’s achievements, so they now pay youths to cause mayhem.
He said kidnappings are being used to create fear and undermine public confidence. He commended security agencies, insisting their successes go unnoticed.
Key Points:
Families of kidnap victims may find the claim that abductions are politically motivated insensitive.
Accusing opponents of sponsoring insecurity could deepen political polarisation ahead of 2027.
Without evidence, the allegation may be seen as a deflection from security failures.
Commending security forces while citizens remain in captivity may not reassure a frightened public.
The statement shifts focus from rescue efforts to a political blame game.
Akpabio urged Nigerians to be vigilant and not allow political tensions to divide the country, insisting that elections are temporary while national unity is paramount.
