BREAKING NEWS: Plane With 248 Passengers Makes Emergency Landing In Lagos
A passenger aircraft carrying 248 passengers and 12 crew members made an emergency landing at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, after developing technical problems mid-air.....TAP TO CONTINUE READING
A statement on Saturday signed by the Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, said it received distress alerts through its 767/112 toll-free emergency lines, prompting the immediate activation of the State’s Emergency Response Plan from its Command and Control Centre in Alausa, Ikeja.
Upon arrival at the scene, LASEMA’s Response Team discovered that the aircraft had conducted a forced landing on the runway due to technical issues encountered while flying within Nigerian airspace.
The pilot was able to safely land the aircraft, with emergency responders already on high alert at the airport.
According to the agency, the aircraft, whose operator’s name was withheld, was later moved to the apron after safety checks were carried out by the pilot and engineering crew for further inspection and necessary repairs.
“The passenger aircraft (Operator’s name withheld), laden to capacity with 248 passengers and 12 crew members, suffered technical fault while airborne in Nigerian air space, leading to the emergency landing in Lagos.
“The pilot executed a safe landing on the runway at Muritala Mohammed International Airport with LASEMA Response Team and other emergency responders standing-by on extreme high alert on the runway,” the statement read.
All passengers were safely evacuated from the aircraft, and no injuries or loss of life were recorded.
LASEMA added that the incident did not result in any significant damage to the aircraft despite the technical fault.
Recovery operations were successfully concluded, and the aircraft has been secured.
Emergency response efforts involved a multi-agency collaboration, including LASEMA’s Command and Control Centre, LASAMBUS, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, and the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).
