Supreme Court Reserves Judgment in ADC and PDP Leadership Disputes

The Supreme Court has reserved judgment in appeals filed by the David Mark-led faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Kabiru Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over leadership crises in both parties.

A five-member panel presided over by Justice Mohammed Lawal Garba heard arguments on Wednesday. Party stalwarts expressed cautious optimism, but analysts warn that further delay may disrupt preparations for party primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Key Points:

The ADC has five prominent leaders eyeing its presidential ticket, including Atiku and Obi.
INEC has scheduled party primaries from April 23 to May 30, 2026.
Failure to submit membership registers may disqualify parties from elections.
A political analyst warned that unresolved leadership crises could leave INEC to recognise factions arbitrarily.
The Turaki faction urged PDP members to keep faith despite the delay.

The Supreme Court’s eventual ruling will determine which factions are recognised for the 2027 elections.
