Governor Siminalayi Fubara Warned His Days Are Numbered Without Rivers Lawmakers’ Support

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has been warned that his political future could be in serious danger if he continues without the backing of the State House of Assembly.....TAP TO CONTINUE READING

The warning came amid the deepening political crisis in Rivers, where lawmakers have begun impeachment moves against the governor and his deputy.

However, the situation has raised fresh concerns about the stability of the state’s government and the balance of power between the executive and the legislature.

Speaking on the unfolding drama, the Director of News at Television Continental, Babajide Otitoju, said no governor can survive politically without the support of lawmakers.

According to him, the legislature plays a decisive role in sustaining any administration at the state level.

Otitoju described the impeachment process as troubling, especially the attempt to remove the deputy governor. He said, “Rivers House of Assembly wants to impeach Fubara’s deputy, even when they can’t really point out the offense she has committed.”

Moreover, he noted that the lack of clear allegations has fueled public suspicion about the true motive behind the impeachment process. Otitoju added, “That’s why people think this is just a game meant to get the governor and deputy out of the way so that the speaker can become acting governor.”

The TVC director stressed that history has shown how powerful state assemblies can be when they withdraw support from a governor.

He said, “The fact is clear. If you don’t have the support of the lawmakers, your days could actually be numbered. This was actually what happened to Balarabe Musa, who was governor of Kaduna State.”

Recall, POLITICS NIGERIA previously reported the prolonged face-off between Governor Fubara and lawmakers loyal to former governor Nyesom Wike.

Consequently, the conflict has repeatedly stalled legislative activities and widened divisions within the state’s political structure.

As events unfold, attention remains on how Governor Fubara will navigate the mounting pressure from the House of Assembly and whether reconciliation is still possible.

BREAKING NEWS: Atiku’s Son Abba Expelled from Support Group After Defecting to All Progressives Congress (APC)

Published

on

Abba Atiku Abubakar, son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has been expelled from a political support group following his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).....TAP TO CONTINUE READING

The Atiku Haske Organisation announced his expulsion after rejecting his directive asking members of the group to defect to the APC and support President Bola Tinubu.

The group made it clear that Abba has no authority to decide its political direction or issue instructions on its behalf.

In a statement released in Abuja on Sunday, the initiator and convener of the organisation, Mai Nagge Bakari, said Abba was never the founder of the group and did not have any leadership position that gave him such powers.

According to Bakari, Abba was only invited to associate with the organisation and had no control over its affairs.

“We founded the Atiku Haske Organisation and merely invited Abba to join the group. He has neither contributed a naira to the activities of the organisation nor possesses its certificate of registration.”

Bakari added that the group was under no obligation to obey any directive issued by Abba.

“We are therefore under no obligation to adhere to any directive issued by him. On the contrary, he is subject to our regulations and has fallen short of our expectations. He has accordingly been dismissed as a member,” he said.

The organisation also rejected Abba’s call for members to defect to the APC and for the group to be renamed the Haske Bola Tinubu Organisation.

It insisted that its members had collectively agreed to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), where Atiku Abubakar is expected to pursue his 2027 presidential ambition.

The group described Abba’s action as a clear violation of its resolutions, values, and internal agreements.

“The Atiku Haske Organisation is not a party to, nor interested in, defecting to any political party other than the African Democratic Congress,” the statement said.

“We were formerly in the PDP and resolved collectively to move to the ADC.”

Bakari declared Abba’s directive null and void, stressing that it had no effect on the organisation.

“What Abba has done is contrary to our resolutions, values and principles, and he is hereby expelled from the organisation,” he stated.

The group also reaffirmed its loyalty to Atiku Abubakar, describing him as the best political figure to represent its ideals and future plans.

“We remain resolute in our conviction that His Excellency Atiku Abubakar is the best candidate to advance our objectives,” the statement added.

It further challenged Abba to form his own political group if he wished to pursue a different agenda and warned him against presenting himself as a member of the organisation.

“The directive issued by Abba is a nullity and is dead on arrival,” the group said.

Abba had earlier announced his defection to the APC on Thursday at the National Assembly complex in Abuja.

He was received by the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, alongside other APC leaders from the North-East.

During the event, Abba pledged his support for President Tinubu’s second-term ambition and praised the leadership style of Senator Barau.

He also directed members of his political structure, the Haske Atiku Organisation founded in 2022, to join the APC and mobilise support for the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Following his defection, the group aligned with him was reportedly renamed the Haske Bola Tinubu Organisation, signalling its support for President Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.

2027: Getting Tinubu out of power only way to rescue Nigeria  —  African Democratic Congress ADC

Published

on

The African Democratic Congress has declared that removing President Bola Tinubu from office is essential to rescuing Nigeria from what it described as an unprecedented governance crisis.....TAP TO CONTINUE READING

The party’s spokesperson, Bolaji Abdullahi, stated this on Friday during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, arguing that the country cannot be saved while the current administration remains in power.

“That is the agenda and not about the interests of Nigeria. There is no scenario where he remains in power, and we are able to save this country,” Abdullahi said.

The former minister claimed Nigeria has been hijacked by individuals with a bandit mentality, suggesting this attitude reflects the current government’s approach.

“When people say you can smash it, grab it, and run with it, that is the language of banditry,” he stated.

Abdullahi also raised concerns about alleged legislative manipulation, particularly regarding tax laws, describing recent developments as unprecedented in Nigeria’s democratic history.

He accused the government of forging legislation already passed by the National Assembly, questioning the gravity of such actions.

“A government that can forge a duly passed law; what do you call that?” he asked.

On reports that the Federal Government paid $9 million to foreign lobbyists in the United States to improve Nigeria’s image before American officials, including President Donald Trump, Abdullahi questioned the process and transparency.

“How was this contract awarded? How was the money paid? Who paid the money? What budget line was it taken from? How was the money transferred out of Nigeria?” he said.

He argued the expenditure showed misplaced priorities, noting that investing the same amount in internal security would yield better results than trying to convince foreign leaders that Nigeria is safe.

“They don’t care whether Nigerians are still dying. They don’t care that people are still being killed. They just want to look good before Americans,” Abdullahi said.

The ADC spokesperson also expressed alarm over a medical memorandum of understanding between Nigeria and the United States, reportedly signed around December 19, which he claimed grants the US significant control over fund allocation despite Nigeria’s larger financial contribution.

“No Nigerians have seen the details of this MOU,” he said, describing the terms as shocking while raising questions about sovereignty and accountability.
