‘Too Late’ – Labour Party Chairman Rules Out Peter Obi’s Return for 2027 Elections

Labour Party Chairman Nenadi Usman has stated that it would be “too late” for the party’s former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to return and contest under its platform ahead of the 2027 elections.

Speaking on Arise Television’s Prime Time, Usman cited electoral guidelines, noting that the party register closes 21 days before primaries. She acknowledged Obi’s significant role in boosting the party’s profile but said the window for his return has closed.

Key Points:

Usman said Obi convinced her and many others to join the Labour Party.
She joined due to dissatisfaction with PDP’s zoning arrangement.
Usman praised Governor Alex Otti as the “ambassador of the Labour Party.”
She urged activists and unionists to contest elections rather than protest from outside.
Obi is currently a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Obi’s path back to the Labour Party appears blocked by procedural deadlines.
