The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has declared an indefinite strike in Oyo State, demanding the urgent rescue of schoolchildren and teachers abducted from three schools in Oriire Local Government Area on May 15. In a circular, NUT directed all public primary and secondary school teachers in Oyo to withdraw services from Monday, June 1, until all captives are safely released. The union also ordered solidarity rallies nationwide on Tuesday. About 39 pupils and seven teachers were taken; one teacher has been beheaded.
