Rahmatu Ahmed, wife of kidnapped Permanent Commissioner with the Niger State Independent Electoral Commission (NSIEC), Barrister Ahmed Mohammed, has disclosed that her husband told her during recent phone conversations that his health is deteriorating in captivity, heightening fears over his condition.

Speaking in an interview on Trust TV, on Saturday, 4 July, 2026, Rahmatu described the emotional distress her family has endured since the senior electoral official was abducted.

She said the kidnappers have continued to keep her husband in the bush while demanding a huge ransom the family cannot afford, leaving them helpless despite their efforts to secure his release.
