Tinubu bows to Pressure, sends Presidential Delegation to Ogbomoso after 16 days of Silence on School Abduction

President Bola Tinubu has dispatched a presidential delegation to Ogbomoso, Oyo State, following the abduction of pupils and teachers from schools in Esiele and Yawota communities on May 15, 2026.

The delegation, led by Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, includes the National Security Adviser, Inspector‑General of Police, Chief of Defence Staff, and other top officials.

The visit follows growing public pressure and social media agitations over the president’s silence since the incident. About 46 pupils and teachers remain in captivity. Governor Seyi Makinde says rescue efforts are ongoing.

Key Points:

The delegation arrived 16 days after the abduction, highlighting a slow presidential response that has frustrated Nigerians.
The presence of the Chief of Defence Staff and IGP suggests the government is now treating the incident as a national security priority, albeit belatedly.
The visit may be seen as a political move to defuse public anger ahead of the 2027 elections, rather than a genuine rescue effort.
Families of the victims have waited over two weeks with no official update on the whereabouts of their children.
The delegation is expected to visit the affected communities, but tangible outcomes remain to be seen.

The delegation must produce concrete results. Nigerians will judge the government by whether the victims are rescued, not by the high‑profile visit.
