AFCON: ‘He wants us to be like him’ – Ndidi names Super Eagles player Chelle sets as standard for others

Published

on

Super Eagles captain, Wilfred Ndidi has said that coach, Eric Chelle now wants every member of the team to be like Victor Osimhen in terms of performance.

Ndidi further gave high praise to Osimhen, calling the Galatasaray striker a dream player for any team.

Osimhen has not performed badly in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, scoring four goals and setting up two more, and has also been important in putting pressure on the other team when they do not have the ball.

Osimhen was the team’s captain in their game against Mozambique and wore the captain’s armband again in the important semifinal against Morocco.

Ndidi was rested against Mozambique and was unable to play against Morocco because he was suspended.

Ndidi said that Chelle has set a standard for the whole team with Osimhen’s performance.

Before the third place playoff against Egypt, Ndidi spoke to the media at the press conference.

He said, “Osimhen is one of the best strikers in the world. If you face someone like Osimhen, it’s clear he takes charge of the team, and he’s a really good player. We’ll miss him if he’s not playing, which is pretty normal.

“Since the coach arrived, he’s made everyone feel like they need to match Osimhen’s level.

“He’s a great forward and really impressive if you have him on your team. He’s like three strikers in one. Eric Chelle has made it something that the whole team does together. Watch out for this team in the next few years.”

Osimhen did not take a penalty in Wednesday’s shootout loss to Morocco because he was substituted late in extra time due to an ankle injury.
