While expressing hope that Independence Day celebrations would proceed peacefully, the High Commission cautioned Kenyan nationals to prepare for disruptions and possible unrest.

The diplomatic mission further directed citizens to avoid all protest zones, political gatherings and security checkpoints, warning that “the situation can change rapidly.”

It also flagged potential shutdowns of mobile and internet services, advising residents to safeguard communication lines and maintain backup plans with family and associates.

The advisory stressed the need for essential supplies, including food, water, medication and fully charged phones, in anticipation of potential lockdowns or movement restrictions.

Kenyans were also instructed to rely solely on verified information and official updates from Tanzanian authorities and the High Commission, rather than social media rumours.

The Mission reminded all nationals to ensure their residency and travel documentation are valid and compliant with Tanzanian law.

The statement reads in part; “Following the events during and after the general elections held on 29th October, 2025 in the United Republic of Tanzania, some have expressed concern about the information circulating on the likelihood of demonstrations on the 9th December, 2025.

“The High Commission hopes that the Commemoration of the Independence Day on 9th December, 2025 will be observed in peace and tranquillity throughout the United Republic of Tanzania. However, in the event that this is not the case and there are demonstrations and/or incidences of unrest, the Mission urges the following:

“Shelter in Place: Should there be reports of unrest, remain indoors and limit all non-essential movement; Monitor Local Media: Follow official news channels and the High Commission’s social media/website for real-time, verified updates. Do not rely on unverified rumours; Avoid Areas of Protest/Demonstration: Steer clear of all large gatherings, protests, and security checkpoints. The situation can change rapidly;

“Secure Communications: Be prepared for potential disruptions to internet and mobile service. Have a pre-arranged communication plan with family and friends; Have an Emergency Kit: Ensure you have supplies of food, water, necessary medications, and a charged mobile phone; Contact the High Commission.”
