Troops of the Nigerian Army have killed a bandit, recovered arms and equipment, and forced others to flee with gunshot wounds in a series of operations in Wase and Kanam Local Government Areas of Plateau State.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, by Major Samson Nantip Zhakom, Media Information Officer of the 3 Division/Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE (JTF OPEP), the Army disclosed that the latest operations were part of ongoing efforts to deny bandits freedom of action in the Joint Operations Area (JOA)...TAP TO CONTINUE FULL READING.

According to the statement, on September 16, 2025, troops of 3 Division/JTF OPEP launched an intelligence-driven ambush along routes leading to Odare Forest at Dutsen Zaki, Wase LGA.

During the operation, soldiers intercepted a group of bandits mounted on motorcycles.

“Troops made contact with the bandits and neutralised one of them, while others fled with severe gunshot wounds through the thick forest,” the Army said.

Troops subsequently searched the area and recovered a motorcycle, two mobile phones, one machete, and charms abandoned by the fleeing criminals. The recovered items are currently in military custody for further action.

In a separate operation, troops acting on credible intelligence launched an operation on September 15, 2025, targeting bandits’ crossing points around Garga, Showaka, Yuli, and Kukawa villages in Wase and Kanam LGAs.

“During the operation, troops came in contact and dealt decisively with elements of bandits through superior firepower and professionalism, leading to the bandits fleeing in disarray,” the statement noted.

The exploitation of the area led to the recovery of one G3 rifle, a G3 magazine, and three rounds of 7.62mm (NATO) ammunition, all of which are now in military custody.

The army emphasised that these operations underscore the unrelenting resolve of the 3 Division/JTF OPEP to root out criminal elements and restore peace in the region.

“The recent onslaughts and bombardment of criminal elements, especially bandits in the JOA, are part of Operation ENDURING PEACE’s mandate to continually neutralise armed criminals and bring perpetrators of crimes to justice,” Major Zhakom stressed.

The military urged residents to continue providing timely intelligence that would aid security operations across Plateau State and other parts of the country.

Authorised channels only – BVN services are now limited to CBN-approved banks and financial institutions. Avoid third-party apps or unofficial agents.
