The Federal Workers Forum has announced a solidarity protest scheduled to hold on Thursday, December 4, 2025, at the Federal High Court in Ibadan, Oyo State, to demand an immediate end to the prosecution of its Coordinator, Comrade Andrew Emelieze, who is facing trial for leading a peaceful protest.

In a statement declaring the planned action, the Forum decried the Nigerian authorities’ clampdown on freedom of speech and activists in the country.

“All roads lead to the Federal High Court, Ibadan, December 4, 2025, in solidarity with Comrade Andrew Emelieze,” the Forum stated.

The Forum added that the demonstration would mobilise activists, labour advocates and rights groups nationwide.

“The Federal Workers Forum calls on all comrades, activists and defenders of workers’ rights to stand in unwavering solidarity with Comrade Andrew Emelieze as he appears at the Federal High Court, Ibadan, on the 4th of December, 2025,” it said.

The group condemned Emelieze’s arrest and ongoing prosecution, describing it as a direct attack on civil liberties.

The Forum demanded, “Free Comrade Andrew Emelieze now! The federal government must drop all charges immediately. Comrade Andrew Emelieze is a respected activist, defender of justice, and a courageous voice for the oppressed.”

Emelieze, a well-known activist for the welfare of federal workers, was first detained and released earlier in the year but was rearrested on Friday, July 4, 2025.

However, he was later released.

His lawyer and supporters had raised the alarm over what they described as persistent harassment aimed at silencing lawful agitation for workers’ rights.

According to the Forum, the charges against him amount to a clampdown on constitutional freedoms.

It further called on authorities to uphold citizens’ rights rather than victimise advocates of social justice.

The Forum has demanded that the Federal government and the Department of State Services (DSS) must drop all charges against Emelieze.

The workers’ body has also repeatedly pressed for the government to meet outstanding commitments to labour unions.

BVN registration is now for adults only – Only individuals aged 18 and above can independently register for a BVN. Minors require guardian-linked arrangements.
One device per banking app – You can only use your banking app on one device at a time. Switching devices triggers a 24-hour transaction limit of N20,000.
Authorised channels only – BVN services are now limited to CBN-approved banks and financial institutions. Avoid third-party apps or unofficial agents.

The new rules may feel strict, but they are designed to protect your money and reduce fraud. Be more careful with your phone number, devices, and banking activities to avoid unnecessary restrictions...TAP TO CONTINUE FULL READING.
