‘Icardi will never be an Osimhen’ – Ex-Turkish star claims Argentine player should not be compared to Super Eagles star

Former Trabzonspor manager Yılmaz Vural has claimed that Mauro Icardi cannot replicate the influence of Nigerian star Victor Osimhen at Galatasaray.

Icardi, once Galatasaray’s primary striker, has seen his role reduced since Osimhen’s arrival, making only five league starts this season.

Since Osimhen’s arrival, he has been influential for Galatasaray this season, scoring nine goals in all competitions...TAP TO CONTINUE FULL READING.

However, with Osimhen battling fitness problems, Icardi has stepped back into a more prominent position.

Vural speaks on Osimhen and Icardi

Vural believes the 32-year-old Icardi lacks the physical attributes to lead the line for a team with Galatasaray’s ambitions. The coach highlighted the significant difference in style and impact between the two players.

“Icardi will never be an Osimhen; he will never be able to contribute as much,” Vural stated during an appearance on the SkySpor YouTube channel.

“He doesn’t have the physical strength he used to have. It’s not enough for a team with such ambitious goals like Galatasaray.”

Vural’s comments contrast Icardi’s more static style with Osimhen’s renowned explosive pace, power, and high work rate.

This season, Icardi has scored seven goals in the Süper Lig, making him the club’s second-highest scorer behind Barış Alper Yılmaz, who has eight.

The Nigerian international is currently recovering from an injury sustained on duty with the Super Eagles and faces a late fitness test ahead of the crucial Intercontinental Derby against Fenerbahce on Monday.
