OAU Final-Year Student Alleges University Removed His Name From Graduation List For Protesting Wike’s Visit

Documents obtained by SaharaReporters also confirm that Oladepo successfully paid his convocation fee.
Joshua Temitope Oladepo, a final-year student of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, has accused the institution of deliberately removing his name from the 2025 graduation list as punishment for participating in a student protest against former Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, during his controversial visit to the campus on June 5, 2025.
Oladepo, who spoke with SaharaReporters, said he attempted to log into the university’s convocation portal on Thursday evening only to receive a shocking notification that his name had been excluded from the list of graduating students.
“I was one of the students arrested and detained when Wike came to our campus and we resisted. That was on June 5th, 2025,” he said.
“This evening, I tried to log in into my convocation portal but I was told that my name has been excluded from the graduation list. This wasn’t so initially. As a matter of fact, I was able to make payments for the convocation–the sum of N40 000. This act can be linked to our resistance against the coming of Wike,” he said.

A screenshot of the OAU Convocation Portal seen by SaharaReporters displays the message: “Your name is not yet on the 2025 Convocation list. Please send email to [email protected] or visit the Exams and Records Office.”

Documents obtained by SaharaReporters also confirm that Oladepo successfully paid his convocation fee.
His Remita payment receipt shows a transaction of N40,000, made on Sunday, November 23, 2025, with RRR: 171379218766.
Further findings reveal that OAU had already issued Oladepo an official Notification of Results, dated October 3, 2025.
The document, signed by Y.O. Akinyele (Mrs.), Deputy Registrar of the Examinations and Records Division, certifies that he completed his academic programme in the Department of Political Science, Faculty of Social Sciences.
The Deputy Registrar said, “This is to certify that OLADEPO Joshua Temitope was a student in the Department of Political Science, Faculty of Social Sciences, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, Nigeria.
“The candidate successfully completed an academic programme and was awarded the degree of B.Sc Political Science with the grade of Second Class Honours (Upper Division), as approved by the University Senate, on 18th September, 2025.
“His/Her certificate is being prepared and will soon be ready for collection. Please extend to the candidate all assistance that the holder of a degree certificate may require.”
“We hope you find this information sufficient for you to make a decision on the candidate’s application. However, if you require additional information regarding his/her academic records in the University, or have questions and/or concerns, please contact the Registrar using the following email address: registramosulfe.edu.ng,” she added.
However, despite possessing a verified result and completing his clearance steps, Oladepo insists the sudden exclusion from the convocation list is coordinated retaliation against students who resisted Wike’s presence on campus earlier in the year.
The protest led to several arrests and detentions, including his own.

NELFUND Beneficiaries Donate N10.7 Million to Back President Tinubu’s Re-Election

Beneficiaries of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) in Anambra State have endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term in office and donated N10,735,500 towards the purchase of his expression of interest form. Speaking at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University in Igbariam on Friday, the Chairman of the National Association of Nigerian Students Joint Campus Council in Anambra State, Ifeanyichukwu Chukwuemeka, described the gesture as a show of appreciation for Tinubu’s educational reforms and youth-focused policies. The students said the endorsement recognises the impact of the loan scheme on access to higher education.
Key Points:
Students who benefited from government loans are now publicly backing the president’s re-election.
The N10.7 million donation raises questions about where students sourced such a large sum.
Other NELFUND beneficiaries across Nigeria may feel pressure to show similar political support.
The president’s educational policies gain visible grassroots validation from direct beneficiaries.
The timing of this endorsement, well before the 2027 election, helps build early momentum for Tinubu’s campaign.

Police Rescue Four Kidnapped Children from Suspected Traffickers at Lagos Bus Terminal

Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have rescued four kidnapped children from suspected traffickers at the Alafia Bus Terminal in Coker-Orile and reunited them with their families.
The rescue occurred on Thursday, May 8, 2026, at about 11:40 p.m. during a routine patrol. The children were found with an unidentified woman who was about to board a luxurious bus heading out of Lagos State. The suspect abandoned the children and fled when she noticed the approaching patrol officers. The children had allegedly been kidnapped from the Ijesha-Tedo area of Lagos.
Key Points:
Four families can sleep peacefully knowing their children have been returned safely.
The suspect fleeing on sight suggests an organised child trafficking network operating in Lagos.
Late-night travel with unrelated children should raise red flags for transport workers and passengers.
The police patrol’s vigilance at a bus terminal shows the importance of routine checks in public spaces.

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, on Saturday, launched his fifth-term bid at a grand ceremony in Zaria, Kaduna State. Declaring his intention at the Mallawa Eid Ground, Abbas listed the democratic dividends his representation has attracted to Zaria Federal Constituency.
Thousands of supporters embarked on a solidarity walk before the declaration. Abbas stated he has sponsored 74 bills, with 21 signed into law, and distributed 117 vehicles, 200 tricycles, 1,000 motorcycles, and direct financial support to over 4,000 beneficiaries. Abbas was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2011.
Key Points:
Constituents who have benefited from Abbas’s empowerment programmes may feel motivated to re-elect him.
Opponents may question whether representing the same constituency for five terms limits fresh perspectives.
The Speaker’s focus on constituency projects sets a benchmark for other lawmakers seeking re-election.
His legislative record (74 bills, 21 signed into law) provides measurable evidence of parliamentary activity.
The timing of this declaration, ahead of the 2027 elections, allows Abbas to consolidate grassroots support early.
