Teacher bags jail sentence after sl33ping with her pupils and having a baby with one

A former maths teacher has been struck off after being jailed for offences involving two of her students, one of whom she later had a baby with while on bail. Rebecca Joynes, 30, was sentenced to six and a half years in prison last year after being convicted of multiple counts of engaging in s3xual activity with minors while in a position of trust. A misconduct panel has now banned her from teaching indefinitely, ruling that her behaviour amounted to unacceptable professional conduct and had clearly brought the profession into disrepute.
Joynes first targeted a 15‑year‑old pupil in her class in 2021. She gave him part of her phone number and encouraged him to guess the rest, leading to flirty text exchanges. She later met him at Selfridges, bought him a £345 Gucci belt, and took him to her flat in Salford where they had s3x twice. The boy later shared a photo with friends as proof, and his mother was contacted by the school after allegations surfaced. A police investigation was launched, and Joynes was arrested and bailed on the condition she did not contact anyone under 18.

Despite this, she pursued a second pupil, initially aged 15, who became known as Boy B. Their relationship escalated when he turned 16, after Joynes sent him intimate photos and notes describing him as “perfect.” She invited him to her flat, where they began a s3xual relationship that continued on at least 30 occasions in different places. She told him it was nearly impossible for her to get pregnant due to polycystic ovary syndrome, but later presented him with a babygrow announcing “I love my daddy to the moon and back.” The pair eventually had a child together.

During sentencing, Judge Kate Cornell described Joynes’ behaviour as showing “breathtaking gall” and “astonishing arrogance.” The misconduct panel echoed this view, with chairman Phil Thompson stating that her actions were extremely serious offences that undermined public confidence in the teaching profession. Joynes’ conduct, he said, represented extensive breaches of professional boundaries and abuse of her position of trust. She sobbed as she was jailed in July last year, and the prohibition order now ensures she will never be allowed to teach again.
