Bandits Abduct Retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, Wife in Katsina

Retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, a former Director of Defence Information, and his wife were abducted by bandits on Saturday along the Marabar Musawa–Kafinsoli road in Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State. Their driver was shot in the hand but survived.

The attackers emerged from hiding, blocked the road, and opened fire before taking the couple into a nearby forest. Police have confirmed the incident and deployed additional personnel for search‑and‑rescue operations. The abduction follows a recent attack that killed 16 villagers in nearby Dutsinma LGA.

Key Points:

A retired senior military officer’s abduction shows no citizen is immune from banditry.
The driver’s survival may provide critical intelligence for rescue efforts.
The attack occurred despite recent military gains against bandit leader Muhammadu Fulani.
Farmers and travellers in Katsina face heightened risks, threatening food production.
The incident may fuel political narratives linking insecurity to the 2027 election cycle.

Security forces are under pressure to secure the victims’ release, while residents avoid dangerous roads that have become bandit strongholds.
