Atiku Demands Independent Probe of Emeka Ike’s Voter Data Leak by Wike’s Aide Lere Olayinka

Former Vice‑President Atiku Abubakar has called for an “independent and transparent” investigation into the unauthorised release of Nollywood actor Emeka Ike’s voter registration details by Lere Olayinka, media aide to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.

INEC confirmed the data was accessed using valid staff credentials and released without authority, but said there was no external hack. Atiku questioned how sensitive voter information ended up with political actors and demanded full findings.

Key Points:

A political actor accessing confidential voter data undermines trust in INEC’s neutrality.
The leak could discourage citizens from registering, fearing their data may be weaponised.
Atiku’s call for an independent probe puts pressure on INEC and the DSS to be transparent.
The incident may be used by opposition parties to question the integrity of the 2027 elections.
Without accountability, similar leaks could target other candidates in the future.

Atiku insists on knowing the chain of custody, from who accessed the data to how it reached political actors.
