BREAKING: Finally [VIDEO] Bandits Demand Release of Three Detained Fighters, Livestock for Abducted Ex‑Army Spokesman, Wife

The abductors of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, former Director of Defence Information, and his wife have released a four‑minute video demanding the release of three detained fighters and the return of livestock allegedly seized during security operations. In the footage, the general’s wife, speaking in Hausa, appealed to the Katsina State Government and community leaders to facilitate the release of the detainees identified as Sani, Aminu, and Nasiru. The general urged stakeholders to embrace dialogue. The couple was abducted on May 30 along the Marabar Musawa–Kafinsoli Road in Katsina State.

Key Points:

The demand for prisoner release rather than cash ransom signals a shift in bandit negotiation tactics.
Releasing detained fighters could strengthen terrorist networks and encourage more abductions.
Families of the captives face agonising uncertainty as security agencies weigh their options.
The video’s appeal to community leaders shows bandits are exploiting local governance structures.
A retired military officer and his wife being used as bargaining chips deeply humiliates the state.

Neither the Katsina State Government nor security agencies have issued an official statement on the video, as they face a difficult decision on whether to negotiate.
