Morocco Football President Says Country Will No Longer Bid to Host African Competitions

The President of Morocco’s Football Federation (FRMF), Fouzi Lekjaa, has announced that Morocco will no longer submit bids to host African competitions.

Speaking to Al Jazeera 360, Lekjaa said, “If other countries wish to organize them, we wish them the best.” He addressed controversies surrounding the AFCON final against Senegal, denying any security lapses and stating that Senegal never complained before the final. He said Morocco’s security reputation speaks for itself.

Key Points:

Morocco’s withdrawal could force CAF to find alternative hosts for future tournaments.
Other North African nations may step in to fill the hosting gap.
The decision follows a controversial AFCON final marked by Senegalese fan violence and a walk‑off.
Morocco may now focus on hosting major global events rather than continental ones.
The move could strain Morocco‑CAF relations after the successful 2025 AFCON.

Morocco will focus on strengthening security for future events while leaving African competition hosting to other nations.
